As per IDW's Godzilla comic/graphic novels, I do expect this to get a Japanese translation release, and for those of you that don't know, IDW's Godzilla series do get Japanese-language release courtesy of a company named Phase Six, they're responsible for and handled the localization and translation of all IDW's Godzilla, Dark Horse's Gamera comic in Japan.
I don't know how IDW's Godzilla comic/graphic sales in Japan, but assuming Phase Six is still there and running, I assume the series is doing well in Japan. I say this because IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog got translated into Japanese and it did so well in Japan, they had to re-print vol.1 because it sold out. I never seen an American comic book/graphic novel sold out like crazy in Japan let alone one based on Japanese IP. I say this because Sonic's Japanese fanbase is way smaller then the character's western fanbase. So for an American comic book based on a Japanese IP that isn't well-loved in Japan is just amazing itself. And the fact that Sega Japan even include IDW's Sonic exclusive characters in one of their fire safety is mind-blowing itself, so it shows that American comic book/graphic novels can do well in Japan. If it's based on a Japanese IP, the chances of success goes higher I think (this is just based on my observation). So I think this particular Godzilla comic from IDW could be another possible hit like other IDW's Godzilla comic that came out in Japan. EDIT: Given that we do simulpub for manga in the US (at the same time period that manga come out in Japan), I'm not sure if the reverse is true for American comic book/graphic novels in Japan. Has there been any record or well-known publicized events of any comic book/graphic novel getting a simulpub release in Japan at the same time it come out in the US? If not, then maybe Japan should try this for American comic book/graphic novels based on Japanese IPs, IDW should try this for Godzilla, Sonic the Hedgehog, and maybe other Japanese-based licensed stuff they have. I could say the same thing for Boom Studio's Power Ranger comic/graphic novel. Marvel Comic should try this for any Ultraman, & Godzilla comic they released too. I mean it's fair game, we simulpub manga in the US as it comes out in Japan, why shouldn't we denied Japanese reader of having access to Godzilla comics/graphic novels published by IDW, and Marvel Comics. Tom Scioli is the same guy who wrote the one good Transformers vs G.I. Joe series made for IDW (as opposed to their consistent awesomeness at Skybound), which was an absolutely bonkers reinterpretation of both series through the prism of The New Gods, and an equally insane GoBots comic through Planet of the Apes. His Silver Age style and sheer “smash the toys together” approach is not for everyone, but it results in some of the more fun stories IDW has had over the last decade.
