Geez I knew it was wrapping up but I didn’t expect it to be so sudden. Oh well I’ll look forward to the anime.

It's wild to me that the series got an anime adaption announcement with its final chapter. I don't think I've ever seen that. And it's only a bit over 100 chapters which is both on the short for a series getting an anime and earlier than a lot of recent series when they had their anime announcement. I wonder if it being a Fujimaki series is what allowed it to get these special exceptions.

To be fair 100 chapters has always kind of been the bare minimum required. In theory that’s enough for around 50 episodes assuming they bother to adapt the whole thing. Mashle was in a similar situation but I haven’t heard if they were doing another season of that show. |

I enjoyed it for the most part but this last arc has been pretty weak, I assumed it got axed and the mangaka was rushing to get it done. I'm surprised it's getting an anime

More like 24-36 episodes, as the manga is 13(?) volumes long and has many action scenes. As for Mashle, a sequel was announced over a year ago. Last edited by InNeedOfAName on Sun Aug 31, 2025 9:43 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Like I said “in theory”, it would depend on how it’s paced and if they even wanted it to be that long in the first place. It would probably take 2-3 cours to adapt the whole thing if they kept strictly to manga material. Good to hear they’ll prolly adapt the rest of Mashle at least. |

Yeah, I think Kuroko’s Basketball was big enough that it basically guaranteed that this manga would get an anime despite never being a big seller.

And ANN literally just posted a review!
That being said, the teaser trailer didn't look great, so I hope that's just from how it's been edited. |

That's not accurate, it's actually far more common to have a "author of successful thing writes a new thing that bombs". Perhaps the most notable example in recent memory being Kishimoto's Samurai 8, which he started serializing almost immediately after Naruto ended but never caught on with the public and wound up getting cancelled after only 5 volumes. Heck, this happened to Fujimaki himself too. After KuroBas he started doing a golf manga and although it ran for about 100+ chapters it also wound up getting axed and never got an anime. I haven't read Kill Blue so i don't know anything about it, but it sounds like it got cancelled, rather than just reaching its natural conclusion? In which case, the anime announcement seems rather unusual, I can't recall this ever happening before. It doesn't look like Jump is running out of popular manga to promote either, just this season there's Witch Watch, Dr. Stone, Dandadan and Sakamoto Days, and there's already sequels planned for Elusive Samurai and Undead Unluck, plus JJK and KnY which they've somehow still not run out of material for; then you have the already announced Akanebanashi anime. As for newer stuff, Kagurabachi, RuriDragon and Ichi the Witch seem all but guaranteed to get the anime treatment sooner than later |

Shueisha's marketing seems all over the place nowadays if instead of making an anime adaptation to promote an ongoing manga they're axing a manga and simultaneously announcing an anime adaptation

Such a tired and tropey synopsis. Hopefully it's better than it sounds

For sure this is around the earliest an anime will be announced, but recently series have been getting much higher in the chapter count for it to happen, I want to say closer to 3 years into their run. Witch Watch got its anime announcement a year ago meaning it was over 150 chapters in when it happened. Yozakura Family had a similar later announcement. This is around when Blue Box got its anime announcement, but even that I think was around 120 or 130 chapters in. For a series that seems to have been cut early that was never that big to begin with, I'm shocked it's getting an anime. |

99% of the time we don't need an episode to adapt merely 2 20-page chapters of shonen manga (in fact let's double the chapters adapted if it's extremely action packed). 24-26 eps should be more than enough without it feeling too rushed or too slow. |
