RIP Haru Urara. I haven't been this sad for the death of a animal since Grape-kun. Sad

Didn't another UmaMusume horse die just like a month ago?

Yes, it was Grass Wonder - who also died recently being around the same old age (he reached 30).

Both now rest in heavenly pastures.

I can just imagine Haru Urara and Zippy Chippy (The US version of Haru) talking about how much they were loved for being losers.

Ironically - while Haru been loved as a loser, she wasn't even the biggest loser around at all and way far from the record holders of that title among japanese horses. Her story was far beyond just that.

She was firstly got popular because of the time she raced, as it was slightly after the Japanese bubble crash and the entire nation got struggled, so having a horse underdog who was racing despite the losing streak no matter what made her became sort of symbol of sheer will and tenacity. Plus the IRL horse story was much darker - as because of her losing owner totally couldn't made any money from her, while she totally couldn't retire as broodmare either - so that long streak of races was literally her entire struggling for life, while the horse was not really suited for racing either as she was afraid being near other horses... But that was not even the end, because after not-quite-legal transfer of owners in 2004, she got literally kidnapped and got hidden while new owner tried to make a financial gain over her popularity (so no, she wasn't really retired from racing) - until in she was found completely abandoned by that second owner on the farm where she lived up to her death - so to support her, the farm owners established the donation fund that was supported by fans until last days.

And then Umamusume came out and resurfaced her popularity with the fanbase while giving her character more cheerful and energetic personality, and then the same story hit for the third time when global version came out, which gave the massive boost to recognition of Haru until her death.

Fittingly, it was Maru who replaced Haru Urara on the Recent Deaths line of the In the News Box on the front page of English Wikipedia. According to the rules there, any formerly living organism with an independent Wikipedia article that recently passed can be featured on the front page on that line, provided it’s updated and in reasonable quality. Haru counted, once some sourcing issues were ironed out.

As someone who tried to get Grass Wonder on that same line when they passed, seeing best UmaMusume daughter make it there was heartwarming.

Never been a fan of Musume media (aside from Nuku Nuku) but hearing it being based on actual horse made me interested in learning more. i used her as an example in genuine conversation to help motivate people to never give up & it helped a bunch of people i know so all i can say is thank you & rest in piece Haru.
