Ok i know i'm late but i am only almost 3 years into liking anime and i love classic or old series. I saw the first two episodes and this seems like the best gundam series. I love the gundams, especially gundam shenlong. I love its chinese, kung fu type look/style. I love its extendable claw and flamethrower and gundam deathscythe comes in a close second.
I love how the gundams are very interesting and different looking. And the story plot kinda strays away from the average gundam series. Although its wierd how the kids don't even know each other.
I think it looks like a fantastic series so far and was wanting your input. I bet the endings really good.

Oh how quickly your opinion might change. 2 episodes in isn't a good measure of a series.

For the budget Gundam Wing was made on I can respect how the series was carried out but the first 5-7 episodes are a trainwreck, the death sequences of the same mecha over and over again got on my nerves and the poorly written dialogue spilled coffee all over me. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Gundam Wing entirely but the glaring errors are there and they stick out in a horrible way. It is what it is though, if you like mobile suits blowing eachother up in fair animation quality then you'll enjoy it but quite frankly I just have more things I want to see that pay more attention to the dialogue and the visuals. I only reccommend it to big mecha fans or people who have an interest in the mainstream anime fandoms in America seeing as this was the only Gundam series America liked.

The ONLY reason that I have any fondness for Gundam Wing (and I think many are the same way) is that I liked the Gundam designs. Especially Deathscythe, Sandrock, and Shenlong, mainly because I thought their respective melee weapons were cool. Especially the scythe and shotels, which are two of my favorite weapons after staves and axes. The story I didn't care much for, or most everything else, but I thought the Gundam designs were pretty cool and unique, with interesting themes instead of just the random melee gundam, long range gundam, artillary gundam, speed gundam etc. The Gundams themselves probably had more character than the actual pilots themselves in my opinion.

If only the G Unit from Gundam Wing also put into Anime, I'm sure you will like them more. There are many cool and awesome featured Gundam on G Unit especially Hydra Gundam.

I can be honest, I enjoyed gundam Wing for Duo maxwell and Duo maxwell alone. although the other boys were pretty cute too. Its my fave Gundam Series.
For me, the guys in Gundam Seed were too pretty.
But back to gundam wing, I enjoyed this series a lot. The story was good, and its some of the better..."mid way between total english domination" dubbed anime. as in, back when they had just starting dubbing anime without changing everything.
The voices were spot on in this show. You may be disappointed though, not really a spilier but I'll hide it in case Wufei isn't in it that much

Actually the only part of the dub I enjoyed was the narration.
As for the Gundam Designs themselves, yes they're pretty but some of them come off as re-used designs or similar qualities with Gundams from G Gundam.
As for the cannon fodder suits.......I found their designs to be way too simplistic and rounded. Of course that doesn't say much when every cannon fodder suit from Victory to X looks so simplistic in its design.
As for its low budget you can tell it really has a low budget when its re-using sound effects from Votoms and previous mecha shows.
Another thing though that annoyed me with this series was the lack of differentiating conventional weapons (bullets) with beam weapons.
However I will praise the series for having two of the best opening songs in Gundam. Then again its tough when every Gundam has great music.

I will admit that I like Gundam Wing. I've watched the series multiple times. It's overall storyline and themes are what really drew me into the show. That and the anticipation that something big was going to happen soon. The main characters are mostly mediocre because the creators tried to portray some of them too much as stoic warriors and not enough like actual people( heero, etc). Either that or they were annoying (relena). The really only interesting/cool characters were trieze, une, noin, and zechs. The bizarre pace of the series is also an enigma. Also, top notch soundtrack. I could listen to Wing music forever.
EDIT: I would have to agree with you that most cannon fodder suit designs from Wing are kinda bad to really bad, for different reasons. However, the Leo is my favorite minor mobile suit in any gundam series. Everything from its weapons to it's cockpit looks very militaristic. Plus, you can cut through the damn thing as if it were butter, which is really fun. The taurus is pretty good looking too, and the Serpent is just badass.

In retrospect I put Wing as the second worst Gundam series but I'm glad it came on and that I saw it because it triggered my love for anime

I have to disagree. I felt like the only reason those three come off as slightly more interesting is because of the lack of time we spend with them throughout the course of the series. All the characters fit too nicely into little boxes and philosophies.
Personally, I like some of the music from Wing, mostly the battle sequence stuff and some of the other tunes that play when certain things happen, but I'm not a huge fan of the opening or ending.
Yeah, G-Gundam sucks for the same reasons Wing sucks and more simply because they tried to blend all the fighting shows together and incorporate giant robots...failure was on the horizon.
