Jeez, for a moment I mistook him for Sōichirō Yamamoto (author of Takagi-san).

Shogakukan, harsh against pirates and content creators (see ShoPro), but lenient towards sex pests.

I think that's the whole of the Japanese Establishment you're talking about, unfortunately.

It looks like there are persons on Japanese Wikipedia that are trying to cover this up by nominating this evil mangaka's page for deletion.

The silver lining is that it’s been nice seeing so many mangaka on Twitter removing their manga from the service and vocally getting upset about it. I don’t recall seeing this level of solidarity before regarding this kind of scandal.

Yeah, a lot of talent, most notably ONE, pretty much said they were done doing business with the company. Which is good.

Probably in bad taste to say this, but because the platform is called Manga ONE when I told this to a buddy they thought I was talking about ONE the author and not "a mangaka from a platform called Manga ONE" and they panicked for a moment.

But yeah, here's his tweet:

(and a following clarifying misunderstandings in his phrasing, just in case):

I wish other publishers would take note. Shueisha has a convicted offender on their payroll that shouldn't be getting published in 2026.

Same. I have many manga Sōichirō Yamamoto and double checked the news to make sure it's not the same author.

If you were a publisher you think you'd maybe, y'know, run a basic background check on the people whose work you put on your platform.

JESUS CHRIST, that poor girl! I can only hope that she’s receiving the help she needs to deal with her trauma. That POS rapist needs to be thrown in prison and the key be thrown away.

Question.

Why are we treating manga pirates as some example that needs to be mentioned, as if they're some kind of opposite end equivalence, or some example of people that have "done nothing wrong" by comparison? Did that need to be brought up? And are you really suggesting they're people who should be treated with lenience?

And no, I'm clearly not talking in terms of comparison to sex pests, I'm speaking in terms of "why are we praising piracy in this conversation at all?"
