If there were enough consistency in the plot or characterizations, it might be worth theorizing as many are but when the author pulls stuff from nowhere like the exploding claw this episode and with all the overwrought dialogue, the only recourse is to wait for August... Confused

I didn't realize this was going to take a break (for ~2 months it looks like) O_o

Guess it will be a bit till we see who woke up, new Subaru, old Subaru or some mix. I presume it's the new one, since I'm guessing we're not done with him yet, but who knows at this point Laughing

Is this the first time we've seen Satella so much like this?

but I’m surprised that amid all that character work, there wasn’t a single mention of the heavy implication of Shaula being that giant scorpion monster? Those trio of red dots was a dead giveaway imo.

It seemed like maybe she was trying to put Subaru out of his misery or something? Might be tied in with the creepy version of Newbaru, who knows. But if this was our season finale, I’ll just have to settle for rewatches while I eagerly await the arrival of August! Catch y’all on the flip side!

Yeah, that was a little bit of a surprise. I wonder if that's her real form, she got changed in to it with all the chaos going on, or some ability she has...

I can answer that, it's still Amnesiabaru. Nothing has happened to make him remember anything, he's just determined now
This wasn't the season finale, we're still in season 4. It's just the end of the cour.

Yep. He doesn't remember any of what he was told, but he believes it. He knows he isn't as worthless as he thought and that these people aren't just pretending to be nice to him. I'm sure it'll be rough since a lot of what he might have learned over those events isn't available to him, but it's a big shift that he thinks it is even worth trying.

I'm not sure how the exploding claw is out of nowhere considering this is the first time we're even seeing the scorpion

Would one expect a scorpion claw to explode or do so in such a way that one person is cut in half but a person a few feet from them is unscathed and the person they were holding was obliterated? That is but one example of a number of times this season that the writer has used unrestricted convenience to create plot developments From Zero and it's getting annoying. Here is short list of other things dropped without prior hint or mention

Shaula the Sage (plus two other heros everyone retroactively knows somehow)
Pleiades Watchtower + Library
Anastasia/Echidna Reveal
Subaru Reset (apparently without Return by Death, no sound effect when he woke)
Subaru Jekyl+Hyde

The scorpion being Shaula (maybe) could retroactively be surmised but from only the dialogue of ponytail="scorpion tail" and the odd spots in her iris' I doubt many were just waiting for her to arrive in that form...

Pretty awesome season! Sucks that we have to wait awhile for the finale, but it is what it is...

Ep 11 really hit you in the feels. And that callback to the Season 1 ED playing in the back is *chef's kiss*!

Subaru is a guy who is very self-loathing and looking to run away from himself. But what this episode demonstrates is that even at his rock bottom he DOES possess a good character and the heart of a hero under the deadly circumstances.

This was EXCELLENT use of an amnesia plot for character development and insight!

And the amnesia plot also makes sense of everything everyone has been through since the White Whale, people's names getting eaten and forgetting who they are entirely... MEMORY and it's loss are LITERALLY an ongoing theme of a lot of what everyone is trying to solve... It would only make complete sense that they might stumble upon some thing that might screw with their memories!

We can understand Ram's hostility being borne not from lack of belief, but from frustration of having a major setback by having their lead boy also lose his memories and thus another connection to her twin she doesn't remember, so she refuses to accept this and her normally calm nature is cracking. The fact that Subaru on loops is being extra cagey would cause additional suspicion that they can't rule out even under the assumption that it was possible that he did.

It's good that other commenters clarified certain things, and I believe I've seen clips of additional subs in other regions where they point out Subaru is using female pronouns in Japanese to highlight that reading the books of people's past lives is so immersive that their memories and life mixes with yours. That's an important thing.

I continue to theorize that there was a Subaru and Emelia in the past, known as the Sage and Satella, which led to them erasing their memories, Emelia's completely, and Subaru's to the moment he got isekai'd. It's possible that Emelia is a reincarnation, and the Satella inside Subaru is a memory.

The story of this Subaru here highlights his heroic nature, but it could also be possible that depending on the circumstances he could have become a tragic figure who wound up as the Sage who created the tower, maybe because he lost Satella, whom he loved.

Subaru likely did find the Sage's own Book of the dead, and in reading it got so engrossed that he read it to the point of the Sage dying and resetting his memory to the original isekai'd Subaru. And naturally because the Sage IS Subaru, this identification with the person in the book is so total and complete and Subaru literally became Subaru in a much greater way than our loli-animal controller girl, and therefore reset alongside him.

Assuming each death of Subaru is accounted for somehow as a novella in the library, if Subaru could only find the collection associated with himself, he could read the Subaru books that feature this Emelia in them and recover his memories, and likewise maybe even find the solutions for Julius and Rem's conditions too, which are the other puzzle that is yet to be sorted.

Well, looks like the waiting for the finale is gonna be awhile... I heard it was going to be 45 mins though, so it'll be worthwhile when it finally gets here!

Nah, the cast is trampling inside a place they have no idea about that's obviously filled with traps and obscure history they don't know about. It's a classic mystery box story, but doesn't at all seem like the author is making it up as he goes along.

The heroes are historical mythical people that are well known to the world here.

The current Subaru and his predicament is of course something yet to be explained, but there are plenty of hints.

Shalua being a weapon of sorts was obvious. The scorpion style I associated with the idea of the Scorpio constellation as there is a bit of astronomy involved in the tower, so that fit, and it was subtle foreshadowing. That she can transform into a creature is not out of the ordinary for this magical world and especially one where one of the archbishops literally can change people into animals. So this all fits in with what has consistently been presented. For all we know Shaula is originally a scorpion, that was transformed into a person and raised by the Sage.
