So, just like Gunslinger Girl is doing a great job of being a "name that firearm" anime, Area 88 TV comes along for all of us who are into fighter planes. So far, we've got Shin (and Boris) flying F-8 Crusaders, Kim's got a Harrier, though without a recognition guide nearby, I can't tell the exact mark, and most of what they're up against look like Mig-19's and '21's. Anyone else able to notice/identify anything? (other, anyways, than the occasional F-16 of some secondary character or another...)

Mick has his F-14, and I saw a couple of Drakens taking off from the base.

There is also some F/A-18's in the last installment of the OAV. One of the F/A-18's had a memorable (and messy) scene when a missile went through the cockpit section of the aircraft and the ammo belt for gatling cannon came flying out.
Also in the last installment, one of the pilots (forgot his name, but I believe he was Chinese... and also liked to gun down pilots who ejected from their aircraft) had a Thunderchief.
Now about the manga: if I am not mistaken, didn't Saki have a B-1B with a female crew late in the manga?

I thought the B-1 appeared early in the manga - I thought it showed up in the issues that Viz translated, and that only went 30 or so issues.

Really? Hmmm, it has been awhile since I read the manga, but I do believe it appears in the later issues (right around the time when Viz uses real pictures of aircraft on the cover)

I remember all the covers with planes! The Area 88 Manga had 23 volumes in Japan - Viz only had what 30? 40? comic size issues. The later issues in the Viz run wre still very early in the entire story.
