So does this mean we'll be having a DVD release for all of these? I really hope that they are, 'cause I hate it when they only stream anime online and never release them on DVD. D:

Same here. I hope they also get rights to Harlock SSX and Arcadia of my Youth. I really want to get it on DVD, but not for $70.

Pretty excited about FotNS as well.

Where are my Harlock DVDs? Streaming means nothing to me. You're already way too late to compete with fansubs and Crunchyroll to boot. Again, I think Toei is letting them do this because they basically have nothing to lose by letting FUNi or CR stream them because they're old titles and they know they probably won't be able to push many DVDs in the Americas, but still, it's a lost cause for those of us who want to own it, not just see it (again, in lower quality, lacking 5.1 audio at that.)

Most of these were already on Crunchyroll, apparently, so more streams (let alone U.S.-only ones) doesn't exactly make any difference for me.

Wake me up when there are some actual DVDs involved.

My heart almost stopped when I first read this headline and thought: "MY GOD! DVD releases of Fist of the North Star, Harlock, and SLAM DUNK???"

But then I looked more closely and realized that it is for online streaming only.

While this is nice and all, I can already watch these titles on Crunchyroll just fine. What will FUNimation provide with their online streaming that will differentiate from CR?

Speak for yourself, tell me I could get all of Digimon Tamers for double that and I'd do it. I'd rip my arm and leg off for it damnit!

I'm wondering if these online streams will be a test to see how well they do with the regular FUNi crowd and if they do well, we'll see these titles on DVD in the future?

I will GLADLY pay for Fist of the North Star TV on DVD dammit. That show is just so much fun! Very Happy

Lance, if you're there, care to give us a 411 on this?

I would buy Captain Harlock in a heartbeat. Dubbed. On DVD.
Now I am just praying that it's going to happen.

More of them, faster, and for free? If you want to pay, the Direct2Drive has download-to-own copies.

The problem here is that the cost of dubbing 42 episodes is insanely high, especially if you expect it to be any kind good quality. If you just want a dub regardless, you can expect it to be second rate. I love Harlock to death, but it's an old show, and old shows just DO NOT sell well at all because the reasoning seems to be "Ew, that looks old." I know people despise the word word niche, but this is definitely true in the case of Harlock of GE999, they don't have wide fanbases anymore because they're 30 years too late for that. So the people who love the stuff are the people who like old animation and Matsumoto stuff, which in R1 is an exceedingly small amount of people compared to the general anime populace. I know the rebuttal to this will be "BAWWWW I WANT DUBS REGARDLESS OF THE FACTS AND OPINIONS PRESENTED" so I guess my argument is pointless.
