You do realize this is very common for nearly all forms of media entertainment?

Yes, how dare FUNi protect their assets which the Japanese creators expect them to do. Why can't they just let people take what isn't theirs without asking and distribute it without authorization? Rolling Eyes

I don't really understand youre gripe here. Are you angry because funi blocked an illegal stream of their material? Are you angry because you think this means they wont release soul eater in your localisation? Are you upset about the subs?

Saying zomg funi screws up again heres a link to the Soul Eater opening isn't excactly constructive .. reeks of a whine tbh.

I'm staying in Ireland there's been cases when I try to watch a video (say a premiere video for a band), or I tried to access Funi's stream site to watch Spice and Wolf, and yeah, I was annoyed that I couldn't watch it because I was here. What really pissed me off is I went to preorder the GOW III EP Download with Dream Theater and Opeth and I couldn't because I was here. I'm sure there's it's an anti-piracy measure, but it still slights the fans. At least the fans who don't want to get everything for free.

It seems contradictory and even a little counterproductive for a company to combat piracy by making content free and available on their own terms, but then exclude everyone outside the US.

Hmm that seems really odd because I had no trouble watching the video here in England it seems strange that there would be a seperate case for Ireland. I am using Firefox with no special anti-anti-piracy stuff installed. Tbh if England is allowed and Ireland is not I have a suspicion that this is an ommision of accident not intent. Perhaps Ireland connects to the Internet via a different dns route than England and somehow this didn't make the list. It could be any number of things but I do agree that if it was intentionally excluded then its a silly mistake by funi.

Well I'm in Canada and I can't watch it. I'd say it's pretty darn reasonable to gripe about that since it's part of R1, the region Funi has licensed it for and distributes it in.

Right, because if you can't have it NO-ONE CAN!
And heaven forbid you buy something when you can't see the OP on youtube!

I get it quite often (in Australia), I once decided to use the ones on this site, because they are apparently legal. Then get told it is prohibited from my country. Basicly if something is released/licensed in America and might not come out here, Or at least for a considerable time, We can't watch any of it. Unlike Americans who actually have the choice to purchase it.

It is annoying as a license can actualy make it harder for us, when we should be happy about the license.

Hmm... looks like Funi is on to something with their dubbing policy. All the dubbed Soul Eater episodes they released are at least double of that of their subbed counterparts.

I guess you can get angry but it will always be the cause that it is something Funimation has to do rather then wants to do it. Sorry Canada and various other countries. But seriously, what kind of business wouldn't want to market their product to more customers? Streams have a bit of their own rules and sometimes other regions won't allow them in their regions for various reasons. Are condolences on your misfortunes.

Also isn't this more a Youtube issue? They do this stuff on other things too.

This happens all of the time with media of all sorts. For example a lot of American TV channels/shows that have segments of their show to view on their website I cant watch here in Germany. It deals solely with copyright issues. Its not about piracy I think. Which still it annoys the fudge out of me because I miss watching my favorite shows from the states - and when said shows offer pieces to watch for free on their sites - its prohibited because I live in Germany now.

What Funi is doing is common amongst many companies for many different media products. There are a lot of official music videos, show segments, and even commercials on youtube I cant watch because of German laws too. Just how it is.

Makes me long to live in the states again (rarely) so I can watch The Daily Show amongst other things.

I got the same message too, despite being in the USA.

What kind of video was this supposed to be, anyway? One of Funimation's official streams, or an illegal version?
