Crunchyroll has put up a petition asking for 100,000 signatures to present to the makers of Bleach.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-633056/petition-we-want-bleach-and-need-your-help/

100,000 in a single week? I think this could just be a way to weasel out of any blame for not getting the show.

If you ask me, I'd say they already got it but are just teasing Bleach fans. This petition doesn't make much sense, as I'm quite sure that what the Japanese want to see is another kind of numbers, specifically the ones written in their bank statement.

honestly its prolly just a publicity stunt. a clever way to get the word out about them getting bleach. i mean considering many subscribers joined for naruto I'm sure they have high hopes to bring in new subscribers with bleach.

now they just need to somehow convince funimation to allow them to simulcast one piece and they'll be set.

Yeah, it sounds like more of a publicity stunt or something to me. I really doubt that an online petition is going to do anything to change the minds of the Japanese companies. If actual statistical data based on the views of their other shows doesn't do it then a petition won't either.

Showing that they can get 100,000 signatures in a week would help influence the decision of the Japanese companies but it could backfire. It might suggest the show is more popular than it really is and encourage the Japanese companies to ask for more money. There's already a problem with the Japanese no understanding that for the most part anime is just a niche market in NA.

The petition would not effect the Japanese company's choice in this matter. Even if they could only get 2 signatures it wouldn't change the out come. As long as Crunchyroll puts up the money, why would they care? Either way they get paid. If the signatures effects anyone's decisions it would be Cruchyroll's. If they get that many sigs then that means they are guarantied that many viewers (theoretically).

I'm wondering how much it would cost Crunchyroll to stream Bleach.

Shouldn't be that much. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they had already acquired it(since that deal with Tokyo TV) and are currently translating the episodes, but that would also be quite surprising as I couldn't imagine CR keeping a secret for that long, as they obviously love to show off.
So, I'm taking this "petition" as mere publicity for something already, or soon to be acquired. Doubt any side would actually announce the costs.
But then again, I'm no specialist and this is merely a biased opinion.

They're now up to about 40,000, or at least that's what they claim. If they can keep up the pace then they could make the 100K.

Of course this looks like it's more for their benefit than the Japanese companies. They want to work out whether it's worth spending the money.

Honestly, I'd rather them go after other series than stuff thats already going to be licensed to death and shown on tv. Instead of expending all that effort to get one dumb series (and probably paying alot for it) they could be going after other stuff currently airing, or getting older, unlicensed catalog series. My confidence in crunchyroll has been hitting all time lows.
Crunchyroll over the past season:
"WE HAVE OVER HAF AMINE CURRENTLY IN JAPAN FOR SPIRNG SEEZIN!" *posts 4 series*
*crickets*
*crickets*
*crickets*
*crickets*
"WE GOT HARUHI FOR SOME REASON!"
*crickets*
*crickets*
*crickets*
*crickets*
"SOCAR AMINE!"
*crickets*
*crickets*
"ZAMG GUIZ LETS GET BLEECH! WE MAK PATISHIN WE NEED LIKE A BAZZILION SIGNITUREZ GOGOGO!!!"

I'm starting to feel my subscription is going to waste.

I dunno, Heroman and Ichiban Ushio no Daimao are enough to justify mine.

^^Same here along with Fairy Tail and Giant Killing (that show rocks!). Actually, I'm watching pretty much everything except UraBoku. Plus, no ads is a good thing

Now Dattebayo says that if CR gets the show they'll stop dubbing it, although they are in support of CR getting the show.

Fix'd

And yeah, just like Naruto. And I can respect them for that. They're not being jerks about it and support the legal movement.

crunchyroll just updated saying they got the desired numbers for the petition. I'm still thinking its just a PR stunt but i guess we'll see.

Getting 100,000+ signatures by this week doesn't seem as weird to me as the requirements for that Gundam Wing contest they are doing.
