I'm seeing that with the renewal of Evangelion there is a new edit of Death. My question is which version of Death is on the Manga DVD?
Will there be a release of death true2 if it's not the one on Manga's DVD?

As far as I am aware, the Manga version of D&R is the original theatrical release, not Death (True). It's very highly doubtful that Manga would release Death (True)^2 unless they get into some sort of renewal spirit themselves Wink Plus, you get into the whole licensing issue, whether Manga holds rights for Death (True)^2 or not, and things of that nature. At this point I doubt another company would come along and attempt to license it if they don't.

Anyone know the full story behind all these Death and Rebirth versions released?

How long they are, if they have any new footage/dialogue not found in the directors cut version of the show or the End of Evangelion movies? Why are there so many?

Kazuki-san I remember you saying something about an assassination plot by SEELE in our Eva discussion not long ago. In which version of D&R was that?

Sure there was the original theatrical release. Then there was a new director's cut entitled Death (True) that played on a Japanese satellite station about a year later. This added some new scenes. Finally, for the Revival of Evangelion, a third version was created Death (True)^2 which adds a couple of extra scenes not in the other 2 versions. I believe that they are all the same length and some other cuts were made to incorporate the new scenes.

It should also be noted that many of these scenes are included in the Director's Cut of the last 4 eps.

Kamiboy: http://www.animenation.net/forums/showthread.php?t=131373&page=2&pp=15 Start on that page, and the next 2 will show screencaps. I'm not sure if it's from the Eva Renewal Project (a normal ep), or from Death (True)^2.

From what I understand, Death (true)^2 is the "definitive" version of Death, and it is the one that's included on Manga's release.

EDIT: To expound on this, apparently the original version of Death contained several of the new scenes from the extended versions of episodes 21-22 which had yet to be released on video at the time the movie came out. Death (true) had most of these scenes cut out. And Death (true)^2 had some reworked music and sound effects, as well as the addition of a brief scene, also from the extened home video episodes, of spoiler[Adam fused to Ikari's right hand].

There is really nothing more definitive about one of them then the other versions. The additions are all minor, and the spoiler you referred to is in fact on the Director's Cut eps already out by ADV and will be included in Eva Plat. I don't remember if that particular spoiler appears in the Manga version of D&R or not, and I don't feel like perusing the disc to attempt to find it.

The scene I mentioned is in the version Manga released. I specifically looked for it the last time I watched after reading about it being in (true)^2.

And I just called it "definitive" since it seems to be the only version GAiNAX put through for Renewal.
