I just got an e-mail from Waldenbooks that says they exclusive rights to Di Gi Charat. Is Waldenbooks owned by Borders, or is Borders not the only one that have the rights to sell Di Gi Charat before the rest of the book stores?

Waldenbooks is owned by Borders Group, Inc which owns Borders.

Yeah, this is so f uped. Its another instance of Borders pressuring publishers to do exclusive deals thus further muscling out indie books stores.

Somehow I doubt Borders getting a limited exclusive on the Digi Charat manga is going to kill off the indipendent book stores. Half the book stores I go to that are localy owned don't even carry anime mags, let alone manga. Emerje |

This actually came up a few months ago. You can read Eric Searleman's reponses about it here as well as his follow-up responses.
Essentially, it's as six month window before the books become available through regular distribution. It's actually a good sign that major book stores are seeing value in manga and are working with the publishers to come up with new ways of promoting it and doing things with it. |

Wow, Anime On DVD's Chris Beveridge. Great to see you read our forums. The posters here don't hate you nearly as much as the posters on your forum seem to hate me.

Hmmm... an industry run on hate, rather than the screams of children. Otaku, Inc. coming soon!

Oh yeah, that reminds me of the history of the now defunct anime club I used to attend on the club's website... at least 5 printed pages of solid text written by a guy I knew who really was a nice guy but was waaaayyyyyy overly melodramatic in terms of allegations of backstabbings and conspiracies against his leadership of the club by former club executives. I nicknamed his club history "The Epic Saga of Shocking Betrayal". Wish I could remember the url of the club's old site to see if they have "The Epic Saga of Shocking Betrayal" cached at the Internet Wayback Machine. EDIT: Hmm... the Internet Wayback machine seems to be down tonight for some reason. EDIT II: Oh never mind... it's working now. EDIT III: Ah, it's not there... the cache for the club's page doesn't go back far enough... probably just as well. |
