I was wondering because some sites offer better prices/more selections, better versions (ie director's cut, etc).

Where do you get your anime and why?

I personally go for Netflicks to try the anime first before I buy it. It usually works out pretty good and is relatively cheap considering all the anime I watch regurally but the only thing is that I just want to keep some of the anime... haha

So, I usually end up at animecornerstore.com to buy my anime. Why? cause I don't really know of anywhere else, however I have been using them for years and haven't been disgruntaled with them yet. They also have a lot of "extras." I bought all my "How To Draw Manga"s there as well as all my wall scrolls and posters...

I thought I would do my part for ANN, and bought some DVDs from Anime Castle. Haven't tried Robert's yet. Am pleased with the delivery time, for traveling all the way across the country. can't figure out how it is faster for the stuff to leave NY go to Philly, go back to NY almost to where it started, and then go west young DVD.

Would like to find a local store. I think my local comic book store carries some titles. I do know they are heavy into renting. But it is right on campus, and like I really want to muddle through all those Ducks in the road! Of course if I was 40 miles north of here, and had the same situation, I would be wading through a bunch of dam Beavers!

Just had a thought and verified. thanks moderators for getting me more in the habit of performing a little research before running off at the keyboard. Anyway, I just checked Powell's Books, http://www.powells.com/s?kw=anime&x=0&y=0 and here is their anime page. I was going to link to the 250 titles per page, but it only got to Battle of the Stars.

Think Global, Shop Local! But do support the advertisers of ANN please! I like it here! No, seriously.

For US releases I use DeepDiscountDVD. Find they have great prices, and if you're patient, free standard shipping.

For Japanese releases (DVDs, CDs, and games) I use Play-Asia. Fair prices for real releases (no bootlegs).

I also go to Deep Discount DVD first when I want to buy a DVD. Overstock.com is another place that I go to frequently. Low prices and relatively cheap shipping. However, I don't really buy DVDs that often and I'm usually looking for a deal when I do. I've picked up quite a few DVDs from The Right Stuf International and Best Buy (in-store) when they've had good specials on titles that I'm interested in. Ebay can be a good place too, as long as you can tell the difference between the official licensed DVDs and the bootlegs.

Would "Anywhere it is sold" and "Because I love anime" be a good answer?

The majority comes from Suncoast, but only on release dates and the titles that are reduced price ($20).

Best Buy for everything else because they usually have the cheapest new price year around.

GameStop for used DVDs because they are so cheap in price.

RightStuf when they have what I want on sale. Their prices on DVDs when the thinpack comes out is unbeatable. Most of the time it is cheaper to buy all the single volumes than the thinpack itself.

Lately, I've been hitting up RightStuf during their 'weekly specials' and for their '12 Days of Christmas' sale. I've found some pretty decent stuff. I've even picked up a couple titles I hadn't really thought about picking up because of the price (of course, I did some research on plot/reviews to see if it sounded interesting... can't always trust little blurbs about it, you know Wink )

I used to do a lot of preordering at Amazon, but I've found cheaper places now. I've used DeepDiscountDVD, but I had an issue with my last order and I didn't care for how they handled it, so I'm not using them either at the moment. I used to go to Suncoast occasionally, but mine closed down due to Katrina evacutions and then never opened back up. I've picked up literally like 2 things at Best Buy in the past 3 years; they just don't have the titles I want there.

My main site to go to currently is DVD Pacific. It's usually slightly cheaper than DDD, but they charge you shipping, so it usually works out to be about the same price. However, the per disk charge can really nail you on thinpaks/box sets, so you need to pay attention to that.

Dunno if I have a preference, but the "pool" of retailers I buy from includes...
Amazon.com (Z-shops included)
Deep Discount DVD
eBay
Best Buy (B&M)
Overstock
Right Stuf

I buy from a few main stores online including amazon, deepdiscountdvd, rightstuf, buy, and dvdpacific.
Amazon is usually on the expensive side but they have daily offers which can sometimes go up to 50% off releases which are fairly new. DDD is a good site with nice prices...but they aren't always the lowest and delivery takes a long time. (2-3 weeks) Rightstuf is good...but their prices are high unless the releases is old or there is a big sale-shipping isn't free unlike the previous two. Buy.com has some good deals...and good service with cheap shipping...only a couple of dollars if that. DVD pacific is one of my favorite as it's prices and shipping are very low with quick shipping.

Take what you want..but i would recommend DVD pacific and rightstuf above the others.

Actually, DDD has a lowest price guarantee. They'll match any other online retailer's price+shipping. I've never experienced that long of a delivery time with them either. Have you ordered from them more than once to give a proper perspective? And where do you live?

Well, technically, you know, Amazon isn't free shipping either. You have to spend $25 to get free shipping. But it's not like that's very hard. And RightStuf has free shipping for orders over $49. That's not too shabby in my opinion. I don't know about you, but I usually spend at least $50 at a time buying anime/manga; however, I tend to buy a month or two's stuff at a time.

If it wasn't apparent in my post, I agree with that recommendation. DVD Pacific for normal purchases and RightStuf for sales. Both sites keep you notified about your order status. RightStuf has sent me several emails to assure me that they were working on my backordered items, which pleased me as some sites will just leave you hanging and not tell you anything.

There would be no problem if they sold legitimate imported R2 DVDs. But if they sell bootlegs, ANN will not allow links to them. I would encourage you not to buy anything from them, even a legitimate product, because they're hurting the industry by stocking and selling bootlegs.

I'll often use DVDpricesearch to look for the best prices, and base my decisions from there. I buy quite a bit from deepdiscountdvd, especially pre-orders for box sets and Vol. 1 + Box discs. Rightstuf is good if they have special sales or when I decide to go buy individual DVDs of something when a box set is coming out, like I did with Azumanga Daioh and Chrono Crusade. I'll also scour the used/new alternate shops at Amazon when I'm buying singles of old series, which I did with Rune Soldier and Snow Fairy Sugar. Other than that, there's Mediacavern.com, which tends to have a decent selection and prices under $20 for new DVDs, and my local Best Buy and independent comic shops.

So, out of all the answers we've got so far, what are the lowest prices? Who has the best service? What about the extras, like wall scrolls, figurines, etc??

Let's all look on our sites and see the prices of a couple series and compare. I chose five anime series and movies to compare with other sites and see how much they cost... Note: All volumes and movies are DVDs...

I'll start with Robert's Anime Corner Store or http://www.animecornerstore.com
Elfen Lied Vol #1: Vector One -- $21.98
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (the movie) -- $26.98
Love Hina Vol #2: Go West -- $19.98
Inu Yasha 1 Collectors Boxed Set (Eps #1-27) -- $77.98
Howl's Moving Castle (the movie) -- $24.98

I'm very interested to see the results!
