This is probably have been already discussed, but i am kinda new here and i wanted to ask something about PeaceMaker. Eventhough these are not spoilers i know some people are hardcore and would like to watch the whole anime before hearing a word about it. his is why ill ask my question in spoliers...
What is the deal with Okita? Is he gay? Is he a man disguising himself as a woman, or a woman disguising herself as a man? What is his relationship with Hijikata? Or is he just a regular guy with more female hormones, comparing? First I thought maybe he was a woman, Hijikata's lover, but then, ... i dont know. All of these assumptions can, and, does make sense in some way...
PS: I watched the subbed version, in which Okita sounds more like a caring woman, and just to get an idea i watched some parts again dubbed, here okita has more manly voice. His japanese voice actor is a woman, while his english voice actor is a man

No, he's a guy. A lot of male characters are made to look feminine. As for his relationship to Hijikata, Souji was trained since age nine by Hijikata. It's just a close relationship (nothing gay).

Okita Soshi was a real person who was the first captain of the Shinsengumi. He is often portrayed as a cheerful person as can also be seen in Kenshin. He eventually caught tuberculosis and died in his 20s. The anime series Shura no Toki has a great "hidden history" on how Okita really died.

The thing about Okita is that he's always been depicted as a bit of a pretty boy. I've not seen pictures of the real Okita, but in the two anime I've seen him most prominent in (PMK and Kenshin), I suppose the creators of those two versions took that pretty boy image he had and turned it into these somewhat to very feminine looking character designs.
Getting to the voices, both versions of Okita were also voiced by women. I think Kenshin's Okita was just to be more generic and make him sound young, since he doesn't get much screen time anyway.
Whereas PMK's Okita is voiced by Saiga Mitsuki, who is well known for doing a lot of masculine roles; young boys like Tsukasa from .hack//SIGN or Junior from R.O.D. the TV. Or, she can play somewhat masculine women as well, such as Sobaash from the Sekai series or Harada Chie from Mai-HiME. I've noticed that quality of her to be able to pull off both kinds of voices and think it's a big plus on her résumé.
Now, getting to the depiction of Okita's character in PMK. I'm sure he's not a homosexual and is just merely super attached to Hijikata. I've not read the entire story yet, as Crono Nanae's presentation has been screwed up by both the anime and ADV's non-licensing of the first half of the franchise, Shinsengumi Imon Peace Maker.
The problem with the anime I heard was that they tried to combine story elements of both the original Peace Maker manga and sequel Peace Maker Kurogane into one series. However, the anime starts right off in the PMK era and didn't do a very good job at leading it all up together, while in fact mixing too much of it together to make a lot of sense.
The problem with ADV's release of the PMK manga is, of course, the fact that we're only getting to read the second half of the franchise. If you've seen the first volume of PMK, Tetsunosuke is already well into his role as a member of the Shinsengumi, leaving six volumes of PM behind him for us to wonder what happened.
So yeah, thanks to ADV for taking the half-assed approach . I can never read PMK and enjoy it fully because I don't even know what happened in PM. But maybe they'll be smart enough to at least license the first part since it's only six volumes.
Sorry for the rant at the end, but I hope everything else before it helped a little.

Peacemaker got the pretty boy thing down-pat, but they seem to have forgotten that he's recorded as being a lady's man. Oh, well.
