I am a huge fan of both Naruto and Bleach, which right now happen to be my two favorite anime series. I have seen up to episode 156 of Naruto, and up to episode 86 of Bleach, and I am also reading the manga of both series, since the anime of each series in currently in a filler arc. Both series are excellent series, in my opinion, and while each is unique in its own way, I have noticed many similarities between these two series. Most of these similarities I am certain are coincidental, expect for one that stands out profoundly, which I shall explain here.
I have noticed that Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto and Uryu Ishida from Bleach are incredibly similar to each other. I first noticed this when I realized that the same actor plays both of their voices, and this led me to see other similarities, as well. I shall list all the similarities that I noticed here. First, they are both one of only two surviving members of a powerful clan: Sasuke and his brother Itachi are the only surviving members of the Uchiha clan; Uryu and his father Ryuken are the only surviving members of the Quincy clan. Second, they have similar attitudes and personalities; they are both very calm and collected, they are both at the top of their class, and they are fighters who use skill over sheer power. Third, they both have rivalries with the main character of their respective series, who happens to be the opposite of them: Sasuke is the rival of Naruto, and Uryu is the rival of Ichigo, both of whom are short-tempered, irrational, and straightforward in fights. Fourth, both are involved in a love triangle with the main character of their respective series: Sasuke is involved in a love triangle that also includes Sakura and Naruto; Uryu is involved in a love triangle that also includes Orihime and Ichigo. (This point is open to debate, but I am strongly of the opinion that both Sasuke and Naruto are attracted to Sakura and that both Uryu and Ichigo are attracted to Orihime.) Fifith, both have an incredible hatred of the only other member of their family/clan: Sasuke hates his brother Itachi; Uryu hates his father Ryuken. Sixth, both are tempted with promises of power much later in the series: Sasuke is tempted by Orochimaru; Uryu is tempted by his father. I cannot think of any more similarities at this point in time, but I shall post them when and if I think of them. Now, I also realize that Sasuke and Uryu are definitely different people, and that almost any two characters from any two anime series can be compared to each other, but the similarities that I have pointed out here are much more significant than others. If anyone has noticed any more similarities between these two characters, please let me know. So, what does everyone else have to say on this subject? |

If you look at Shonen-style anime you can easily find a ton of cliched/similar characters. Luffy, Goku and Naruto all love to eat, aren't that bright but manage to be main characters. Black Cat seriously has carbon copies of characters from other manga.
The list could go on foreva.... I see what you mean about those two tho, they're both the same type |
