At the moment, the encylopedia has Pocket Monsters: Diamond & Pearl as being just related to Pokemon (TV).
There's a specific relationship that should be noted. It's actually the sequel to Pokemon Advance (TV) since that show is ending in Japan. |

To fill the time slot left by Pokemon Advance, yes. However, does the story continue focusing on the same group of characters? As far as I can tell it's more like a spinoff -- same universe, different characters. |

Well, actually. It's been confirmed that Satoshi (Ash) is going to be a central character for the D/P anime, so it is mearly a continuation of the original series
