I recently bought the Aniplex box sets of all three seasons. The encyclopedia said that there were 95 episodes. The box sets have 27, 35, and 31 episodes, which comes to 93. Where did the other two episodes go?

Do you remember the dealer you bought them from? I think you might have had something slipped in that's not, how shall we say, legit.

The correct boxes should have been from Media Blasters, not Aniplex and will contain all 95 episodes.

AnimeWorks is a subsidiary of Media Blasters, distributing titles licensed by its parent company, including Rurouni Kenshin (TV). However, as far as I know Aniplex was not involved in the production of Kenshin TV series but OAV instead.

How about providing us a picture, with close-ups of company info on the box, Hamha109?

Actually, after checking I found that Aniplex will distribute the upcoming all-Kenshin box set—see their product page here. Also, there apparently were three separate boxes released—see this CD Japan page for the third one—but given the catalog number, I would guess that a company other than Aniplex released then.

I just checked Media Blaster's official site and was sure Hamha109's copies were legit economy boxes released by MB:

Now back to the episodes count: I've only watched Kenshin TV sporadically so I don't know whether it contains recap episode(s) or not (for such a long series, there would be a high chance), but I wouldn't be surprised if MB removed them from the DVD box.

I'll double check Aniplex's involvement later today.

EDIT:

Sorry for the delay. The logo of Aniplex sticks at the upper right corner of the Japanese official site. I wonder why it wasn't added as one of production companies. Rolling Eyes

Could it be that they mistakenly put only 93 episodes, but 95 actual ones on the DVD's?

3 years ago I have seen the series on a local channel (Canal RCN from Colombia) and also in 2004 on Cartoon Network Latin America, and the episode 94 ("The Elegy of Wind and Water" as copied from ANN info on RK) ends with the look of a last episode of the series. I also could note that there is no broadcast date for that supossed episode 95, so I think that Rurouni Kenshin has only 94 episodes (meaning that this episode 95 "End of wandering" never existed). And about the Aniplex boxes, they probably omitted any of the last 32 episodes, I can only think on "The Girl Who Longs For Her Art Student... Love Shock in Hakone Hot Springs" (ep. 78) to be the one eliminated (the other sets of episodes seem to be complete by checking numbers in the ANN's RK episode list).
