I wish this movie had the same kind of publicity in the west as Rurouni Kenshin did. It's not surprising that it doesn't, of course, what with RurKen being a beloved classic and Himitsu being nearly unknown (having never been translated, legally or illegally), but Himitsu is a great manga that would deserve so much more attention and acclaim than it's getting in the English language fandom.
I was kind of hoping that they'd try to ride the coattails of the RuroKen movies and license this movie in English too, and that might lead to the English language release of the manga, too... But that hope is getting slimmer and slimmer. (Maybe eventually we'll get a Hollywood adaptation set in America with an all-American cast and a tailored-to-America story...)

Maybe the problem is everyone's first impressions of the franchise were the fujoushi-bait anime.

Oh please. If you think the anime was "fujoshi-bait" you've probably never seen the manga, never mind reading it. (The anime was pretty bad but "fujoshi-bait" it wasn't. Then again, apparently everything involving good-looking male characters is "fujoshi-bait" and it's automatically horrible, as opposed to all the shows shamelessly pandering to a male audience with cute girls.)
