I'm not saying it is or isn't because of the lawsuit, but what was stated in this article that further proves it wasn't related to it?

It's still possible that it was related. Pocketpair may have needed additional time to decide whether to proceed in Japan in light of the lawsuit. The delay would still be because of the lawsuit, even if it didn't cause them to cancel it.
