I see we're reaching 90's and early 2000's nostalgia wave with this announcement. I'm sure people who grew up watching Gundam Wings on Toonami back in the days will be happy with this announcement.

Huh, dare I hope for a new Gundam Wing animated project? Because I find it very unlikely that after ignoring and replacing the old Vancouver casts for over a decade, Bandai would suddenly decide to fly those three out to a convention panel just to promote the old and increasingly out of print Blu-ray sets.

Wow, I can't believe they got Mark Hildreth. It felt like he'd distanced himself from all things Gundam since he voiced Heero.

I would say it’s very likely that’s all it is. Flying out voice actors for a 30th anniversary panel really isn’t that weird on its own. It’s a nice gesture that can be done regardless of the awkward status of the discs and what not.

Granted, I wouldn’t put it past Sunrise either, given the success of stuff like that Gundam Seed movie. But it’s probably better to keep your expectations in check.

I have to agree with Gloworm that this is giving off the hint of a revival. I don't think Bandai Namco has acknowledged the Canadian Gundam casts since Bandai Entertainment shuttered. They could've conducted a 30th Anniversary panel without the dub's voice actors. They could've just had them record video messages from home. No one would've complained either way. Instead, they're flying them in from Vancouver.

There was a decent amount of animosity over Gundam SEED Freedom using the replacement cast. Given Wing was the show that made Gundam known in the U.S., I could only imagine the shitshow a similar followup would be met with if every actor got replaced.

They're probably going to hype up the book set they're trying to shill on P-Bandai for twice the price of the Japanese release. I doubt there will be an animated project. If anything, it'll probably be another silly picture drama (which was equally pointless back in the day for Frozen Teardrop). Despite all that, just because the Blu-rays are out of print doesn't mean that it isn't easily accessible via streaming. Physical media is dying, so the lack thereof is moot, I'd argue.

As for the dub studio changes, Gundam SEED needed an overhaul anyway, so trying to paint them as these big baddies that "ignored" the Vancouver casts is pretty silly. There never would have been a Gundam SEED dub if it weren't for the starting point of Wing, and nothing will ever eclipse that in popularity. Flying them out for the 25th celebration here in the States makes sense (Yes, it's 30th in Japan, I know).

If anything maybe they'll announce a new steelbook version of the series for people. As I said, they're really trying to drive sales for that anniversary book collection on P-Bandai. Despite that, as I said, it's not a surprise they're tapping people to physically come for the first Gundam series here in the States. It was a pretty big deal back in the day. I'm sure that a recorded message was on the table if they couldn't make it work in their schedules, but seeing that they could, it makes the event all the more special.

Gundam SEED's original dub was so hamfisted, it's understandable that the nostalgia glasses would be thick for most people. There was a reason for the complete redo of the series anyway and most people seem to forget about that. That and it really needed to be done anyway. I'm not saying Gundam Wing's is any better, it's pretty bad at times, but it is what it is. I don't think there is any fear of a Wing redub because it's not like they're going to recut the series or fix anything with it like they did for SEED/DESTINY.

I have a hard time believing that they'd fly in some old English cast-members just to shill some P-Bandai stuff.
I'm not convinced that there will be a new animation announcement either (because why make it in the US?)

SDCC is an internationally known event. Gundam Wing is the entry that brought the franchise to notoriety in the U.S. It's far from the worst venue to announce something new.

Still can't bring myself to watch the Seed Freedom dub on Netflix because the new VA's just don't sound right to me. I understand from a script perspective where they were coming from, but I still associate the Ocean VA's with those characters.
