Minor corrections: There was never an English AI beta dub of Vinland Saga, only Latin American Spanish. Also, the English AI beta dub for pet was not removed at the time of writing.

There is one additional English dub for Journal of Mysterious Creatures, which went up on Nov 4th, making it the first English application of this beta to anime. The first AI anime dub was Banana Fish in Spanish on October 27th. Amazon’s English and Spanish AI dubbing beta project has been going on since March 5th.

Just to possibly fix some potential errors:

1: Vinland Saga has an AI Spanish dub, but the chatter about an AI English dub might have been an error based off a tweet conflating all language dubs. I have seen no screenshot evidence of it ever listing English AI dub, and I check Amazon myself very often.

2: I think you meant to say that the AI dub for PET has NOT been removed yet.

3: There are other Spanish AI dubs that haven't been removed yet, like Dororo, Karakuri Circus, and Banana Fish.

Well, this is a huge breach of contract. Have fun with that, Amazon.

Want a good laugh? Check out this quote from Amazon's PR spin at that link:

"AI-aided processes like this one, which incorporate the right amount of human expertise, can enable localization for titles that would not otherwise be accessible to customers."

Amazon, no. Just no. You cannot convince me that bleeding hemorrhoid of a "dub" you did to Banana Fish was in any way vetted by a human. Only a narcoleptic orangutan with a hearing problem would have let that pass any semblance of a QC.

Super disgusting of Amazon. I hope someone sues them.

This will genuinely make it hard for me to trust that they won’t use AI dubbing in the future. Confused

Dang, this is the sort completely disgusting f@#$ery I'd expect from Crunchyroll. Well, Amazon's in that set of corporate sociopaths too, so completely understandable.

They said the right amount of human expertise but what they didn't say is they think the right amount is 0.

I wonder what kind of response Twin Engine will give regarding those Vinland and Pet dubs and if they even gave any kind of approval in order for Amazon to do this mess... (Spoilers: I very much bet they did not)

Better to have no product than to push out a defective product that is going to cause such a backlash. This is not really surprising given it being Amazon, hopefully they'll think again before doing it but somehow I doubt it.

Remember how Hayao Miyazaki reacted to AI back in 2016:

"I am utterly disgusted."
"I feel this is an insult to life itself."
"We are truly nearing the End Times. Mankind has lost faith in itself."

As I mentioned more than four weeks ago, there was a huge backlash against the AI-generated Latin American Spanish dubs for High School of the Dead, Banana Fish and the Darkstalkers OVA. While it seems that Amazon removed the English AI dubs, the Latin American Spanish ones are still up on Prime Video.

Kadokawa stated that it has not approved an AI dub "in any form." Sentai Filmworks stated that it was "not aware in advance" of the AI dub, and is "looking into it with Amazon." Aniplex did not issue a statement as of press time.

Spicy. Especially that Kadokawa statement.
I can easily see this blowing up in their face to be honest and it rightfully should.

So, while I don't know if the Amazon Prime anime dubs (the non-AI ones) are necessarily union (some have been dubbed in South Africa, but not all), Amazon has a bunch of original series and films that are definitely made with casts that are members of SAG-AFTRA. I wonder if any of those also got a non-English dub made in AI, and also if SAG-AFTRA has been asked for a comment?
