Sounds like it's about a precocious crush, I don't think that's weird unless the story events make if weird.

To me, this is giving inklings of Hybernating Bear, where one of the two MCs starts young and then is shown older, so they want to change the relationship with the older boy.

This gives me extreme ick. Anything with “Shota” in the title (yes I know that’s why the anime’s title was changed) is an instant NOPE from me.
