As I heard Fujimoto is a huge cinephile, I was thinking while clicking on the news, 'I wonder if he'd be critical if the director is any less skilful than, hmm, like Kore-eda', only to find out that he's indeed directing the adaptation. One of my favorite Japanese directors, very different in style than Fujimoto, and likely to give a pretty different touch or interpretation to Look Back, but for this particular title probably will still work.

Definitely one of my most anticipated live-action films for 2026, alongside Supergirl and the animated/live-action hybrid film Coyote vs. Acme. Hoping the live-action Look Back film will be licensed for theatrical release shortly after the Japanese premiere for countries outside Japan to watch, in particular North America and Europe.

I'm betting GKids will try to get their hands on live-action Look Back, since they licensed the animated version too. Speaking of which, I wonder when the animated version will come out on home video in the US? I know it took a while for it to come out on BR in Japan, so maybe that might be why.

The animated adaption set a high bar to live up to, though I like what I'm seeing in the teaser.
