Wonder if this will reach the end or we'll need a 4th season for that?

Damn, this KV goes hard. This season adapts what's widely considered MT at its best; this visual gives me hope it gets the care it deserves

The novel series ended in volume 26, and both seasons so far covered 6 volumes each. I suspect season 3 and/or the eventual 4 will cover at least 6 volumes each, with the two final volumes either being slipped in there somewhere or covered in a movie or mini-season.
Of course, while Rudy's story does end in Mushoku Tensei, the actual plot is left deliberately unresolved. The author has been writing some short spin-off stories and another episodic series in the meantime, but stated there will be another series about Rudy's children, which he stated he will start writing after the anime finishes. He said he doesn't consider it a "sequel" and will rather treat it like a separate series in the same world, but since it is the necessary continuation of the plot, fans often use the word "sequel" to describe it.

I was expecting MT S3 for fall '26 (or even winter '27 because Bind was working on Ruri Rocks) but I'm glad I'll have to wait much longer to watch Rudeus fights with Atofe and Orsted, sadly there's no announcement for an OVA adapting the last chapters of the Novels focusing on Eris, from her arrival at the Sword God's Holy Land, the night talks she, Nina and Isolte had, of course the fight where she became a Sword King and the letter part. I'm so excited cannot wait more!!

Probably one of the best adventure-y shows I've seen in years, it's simultaneously tragic that it has weird/uncomfortable polygamy/age things featured in it. Taken purely for its worldbuilding & characters, it feels legitimately massive and epic, but then the moments where the anime-isms and creep factor start to surface, it's frustratingly difficult to recommend it to friends and family to check out.
I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'm going to continue watching it. Once more episodes are out to binge I'll screen it for content & see how much agency all of the wives wind up actually having or if the whole thing just feels like a thin excuse for a 34yr old character to be dating several kids at the same time.

100% agreed on its positives and negatives and how much I care about character agency. Having read the novels, it'd be equally tragic for you to stop now as, with very few exceptions, all the worst stuff is really behind us. I'm still upset the author never directly addresses unresolved need for accountability from past arcs, but at least all the creepiest stuff is gone and practically forgotten. The wives could go either way, depending on what the anime chooses to adapt or not.

I kept thinking it was supposed to come out this season until I saw this article's title.

Volume wise.
It should adapt up to volume 17 of the novel, as they skipped a few eris arcs and considering how prominent eris is in the promo and how necessary are those arcs. They definitely will try to squeeze them in. That leaves ln 18 to 26, which end the core story. But we still get an epilogue(redundancy) of at least 4 more novels.
And here is the kicker,in the prologue of novel 29 ( adding the epilogue to the core) the characters in universe said that Rudeus books go up to 59.
