I don't know who most of these people are but it's not surprising they're all Gen 1 Pokemon outside the random Zygarde pick. Goes to show the genius of the first generation of Pokemon.

According to the data people crunched Nintendo spent more money on this Super Bowl ad than the entire budget for Pokemon Legenda ZA. Crazy priorities right there.

Not really. Pokémon has never really spent that much money on marketing, so it’s nice to see them in the limelight here and in the few cases they ever are.

Pokemon is jointly owned by The Pokemon Company, which is a separate organization co-founded by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. The Pokemon Company manages the Pokemon brand and production, Nintendo mainly helps publish the series but doesn't develop them or set a game budget on it's own.

Regardless Pokemon is a global brand that sells much more than just video games so that sort of budget wouldn't be strange in the least.

Regardless of its unverified development budget, Legends: Z-A did sell a verified 12.3 million copies. So the ad's estimated cost to Pokémon is a small fraction of how much the game earned.

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2026-02-03/switch-surpasses-ds-lifetime-sales-to-become-nintendo-best-selling-console-ever/.233778

Besides, this isn't an ad for just Legends: Z-A, but for the Pokemon franchise's entire 30-year history. The ad's cost is a small fraction of how much the Pokémon Company spent on development and marketing over the last three decades.

Great. Celebrities like Pokemon, that's nice.

This anniversary feels kinda lazy so far, I know Pokemon day is still coming, but I rolled my eyes when I saw the Pikachu with the "30" cheeks.

The issue is that they don't put much money back into the games. They are very mediocre compared to other modern AAA titles. They bank on merch so they treat the game and anime like glorified advertisements.

Honestly Lady GaGa singing the Jigglypuff song and Trevor Noah doing the Psyduck voice were not on my bingo card.

Yes, I was responding to the person directly above what you're quoting who said every Pokemon in the ad sans Zygarde is from Gen 1. Thank you for the necessary follow-up, nobody would have gotten it otherwise

I think this was the only ad I watch along with that budwiser one that looked liked it was made with AI.

That’s never been the issue with the games. Their issues have on occasion been some questionable design choices (which have been around since Gen 1l) and with the more recent games, optimization problems (likely Nintendo’s fault). Which isn’t a sign of them not putting any money into the games.

The games themselves are merchandise and is the very thing that serves as an anchor for everything else including the anime, trading cards, and such.

So isn’t really th negative you think it is.
