...This is something I noticed.

I'm going to be honest: All I've read from CLAMP is one volume of xxxHOLiC, five of Chobits, and 3 of X/1999. But it seems that a recurring theme in CLAMP works would be computers.

In Chobits, spoiler[CLAMP shows a world in which people are pretty much addicted to computers, which isn't so far off, considering how more and more people are getting addicted to the internet. This is shown perfectly in Mrs. Shimizu's case, what with her husband and all.]

Then, in xxxHOLiCspoiler[ theres the lady that Yuuko goes to, who's addicted to her PC. Yuuko 'helps' the lady, of course.]

Then there's X/1999 with spoiler[The Beast, which is completely in love with it's creator, and goes into fits of jealousy if her minds trails off to something as simple as a chess move, or as complex as a math algorithm (?).]

The computer as an aid to society, while having the threat of being addicting is pretty common in CLAMP works. I guess it kinda figures, since all the members of CLAMP are women...hehe..."Frank, get off that PC!"--something like that, lol.

I haven't read Angelic Layer, but I'm guessing PC-themes are there too, huh?

Well, there really aren't any computers in Angelic Layer unless you count the "dolls" themselves. I tend to consider them robots...which are controlled by computers... Rolling Eyes well...And the story focuses more on friends and family, IMO.

I haven't read ALL of CLAMP's works but not all of them focus on computers. Cardcaptor Sakura, Legal Drug, Wish, Suki, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland certainly don't.

But, as to why the focus on computers in those particular ones:

1. Chobits spoiler[it is showing what happens when you stop needing/craving/desiring human contact and live in your own little world.]

2. xxxholic is showing how spoiler[by being on the Internet all the time can take away from the things that you should be doing, the things that should be more important. ] See also #1.

3. x/1999 is harder for me to explain. And I can't think of anything right now, so I'll try later... Wink

But, you've made a good choice with reading CLAMP. I hope that you read more of their work and enjoy the heck out of it!

Angelic Layer in a sense involves computer technology, just not by the way that we know it today. Granted, what's his name would do all this analyzing of different people and their dolls, so it's not surprising there. Chobits really brought the dangers of getting addicted to computers, because spoiler[one guy married one, and another fell in love with one who happened to work a job as well] and the story goes on. This ties a bit into the cyberpunk thing, namely Ghost in the Shell, where spoiler[you yourself are a cyborg computer that can access different places and so forth.]

OK. CLAMP likes involving computing into their stories. So? It's what they like to do.

They're probably just tapping into society's love/hate/concern about technology, like so many other parts of pop culture are. I don't think it's anything really big, especially not in xxxHolic where it's only one sidestory dealing with things.

CLAMP has multiple themes in most of their work. Haven't you noticed most of their stories all have some underlying theme of the problems with love? Computers isn't the only one. It's partly why I love Tsubasa so much, because it goes back to all the familiar worlds I love in all their other series, and revisits the themes as well as adding more to them. They also have a thing with right eyes. Seishiro and Subaru in Tokyo Babylon/ X; now Syaoran in Tsubasa.

That's true, especially with Chi's obsession (or is this word too strong?) to find the 'someone just for her'.

But, again, I haven't read much CLAMP...

Heh, I'm a CLAMP fanatic and have read most of their works. Even the crappy ones. Hehe.
