It's questionable to call Nissan's campaign a "rip-off" of Citroen's when Citroen is openly stea—that is, paying homage to the Transformers toys…which were co-designed by Shoji Kawamori, the designer of the Nissan campaign.
That's like making a questionable claim that Sunrise's Code Geass is ripping Cartoon Network's Megas XLR, simply because Megas XLR came first and has robots.
Citroen's campaign has a transforming car that pays homage to the Transformers. Nissan's campaign has a smaller powered suit that doesn't transform into the SUV. The Nissan campaign merely says that the stability and "smarts" of its SUV is comparable to a fictional powered suit.

And we Americans get shafted again.
Maybe I can swap out the Mazda3 stuff for a Euro-Spec Ford Focus....

If anything, it's closer to the Armored Suits of Stand Alone Complex in design (which stem from the Landmates from Shirows previous Appleseed, and eventually you'll trace your way back to the original exoskeletons, the MI's powered armour from the Starship Troopers novel).
