Yep, this winter, it'll be coming, in Viz's new format, unflipped, 10 bucks each.

I already bought all 9 volumes (And I got vol.1 of Last Order), but I might buy these anyway and like donate my old ones to my libary.

Aww.. it's kind of half-exciting. On the one hand, they are running it unflipped which is cool.. but on the other they don't appear to be using the original cover art. (again) That was the one thing that disappointed me about the first release of gunnm.. why didn't they use the original covers for all of the books? Yukito worked so hard on them. X_X

I don't know if I should be happy or annoyed. On one hand I like the unflipped manga and lower price. On the other hand it's a smaller size and doesn't 'blend in' with the rest of my Battle Angel collection that I have put together. And I don't realy feel like repurchasing the new ones so that they 'blend in'; and I don't know how much long the old fromat will be around - anyone know if they will keep printing the old format?

I suspect they're rereleasing it in preperation for James Cameron's allegedly forthcoming movie version.

Doubt it.. the movie has been allegedly forthcoming for a looong time. They're probably re-releasing it unflipped because people will buy it again if they like it, and will buy it for the first time if they prefer unflipped manga. Also gives them a chance to correct translation & art mistakes from the first release.

And yes.. some of the covers viz used (the later books in the series) were the original covers created by kishiro. However..the cover they used for the first book (& possibly the second, I can't recall) is not his original cover. All of the covers were painted in heavy detail. Not sure why they use the other images. Sad Also I hope they include his comic shorts & extras in the new releases. They are funny! Always makes me sad to see companies leave out good stuff in books. :-/

Actually it was stated about in June I think that Cameron is finally ready to do Battle Angel Alita's live action adapation. It's been said we'll see something by 2005...

Although, ya could just watch Dark Angel, since Battle Angel/Gunnm was part of its baisis Razz

Only reason I think of why Viz is re-releasing the series is because alot of the old books are kinda dwindling in numbers. I can imagine, having all original 9 volumes in the same format with the newly released Last Order would be nice too for the organized freak like some of us here (I am one, I admit!).

I hope too all the lil extras get added into this re-release, be great.

Yes I agree the older format is getting harder to find, about the only place you are guareented to be able to still find copies is online bookstores and such. Becuase of that I have stepped up the pace at which I pick them up but I don't know if I will be able to get the set completed. BTW, does anyone know where I can get the correct order of the books? I only have the order of what I own and the next one I need don't know what most of the order is.

Do you mean the correct cronological order of each volume? If you look on the table of contents, you'll see the correct listing of each volume, it goes -

Battle Angel Alita, Tears of an Angel, Killing Angel, Angel of Victory, Angel of Redemption, Angel of Death, Angel of Chaos, Fallen Angel and Angel's Ascension.

You might see Ashen Victor at the end of the list. If your not familiar with it, its a spin off of the series that focuses on Motorball many years b4 Battle Angel took place. I've never seen Ashen Victor around anywhere, but it looks pretty cool because Motorball looks like so much fun Anime smallmouth Thats yet another practically out of print title Viz needs to re-release, along w/ Kishiro's Aqua Knight, and I would very much like to see that one Street Fighter II:Cammy manga Viz released.

Anyone here notice how much Alita/Gally and Cammy from Street Fighter are alike???

No the order and names of the graphic novels. I'm good to go on the manga's that I already have, but for ones that I am still in the process of buying I'm not sure of the order. Which means I can't get more than one at a time right now.

I wouldn't say their older format of publishing manga is dwindling. They just aren't publishing as much of their back-catalogue as they have in the past. Anyway, can anyone tell me if the GunM sequel in Japan is still on-going? Because if it is, I'll probably wait til it's finished before starting on the re-releases.

Viz has had Last Order for over a year and released it into the monthly comic format, and just recently released the 1st collected volume.
