ANN info

In short, its about three young girls (Karou, Shiho, and Aoi) who are high powered ESPers working for the government.

Episode 1 thoughts:

OP/EDs are nice and I particularly liked the ED montage of the girls. It's just like the Hayate endings. I'd never heard of Synergy SP before Hayate but I like them, they do good work. Visually, the show is really nice.

All three of the lead girls are quite nice. Kaoru's perverted old man personality is fun and both of the other girls are great too. It's a bit early to pick favorites, but I'm currently partial to Aoi. In addition to her personality, it was cool to see her elegantly dodging all those, uh, spoiler[dick lasers.]

I haven't given up on this series, I just found the first episode to be nothing more than mediocre and came in expecting fanservice. Neither the OP or ED really stood out to me either. I'll watch a few more episodes before deciding anything though.

I'm liking Shiho the best here. But that's mostly based on looks. I haven't seen enough of their personalities to make a decision based on that.

Best description of that attack yet. Laughing

While the first episode didn't exactly blow me away, it certainly was fun, and hearing a high-tension Aya Hirano as Kaoru (which treads the line between her "happy Haruhi" and her "fangirl Konata" voices) is great (since her OTHER lead role this season looks like it'll be a SRS BSNS kind of role).

I have issues with the opening theme, but the ending theme sounds lovely. My problem with the OP is that it's one of those "let's sing all together" songs, so it gets boring after a while. The ED theme is a lot better though, and it almost makes me wish that it was used as the OP instead.

I watched it because of Aya, even though it looked pretty bad from the reviews I've seen. It was entertaining and seems to have some potential, so I'll see a few more episodes before I make up my mind. I can see getting tired of spoiler[dick laser man] very very quickly, so I hope he's not a recurring character.

Well, Kurau's personality kind of is fanservice. But otherwise, I wasn't expecting any fanservice. It was hardly one of the greatest opening episodes, but I thought it was fun and has some potential. We'll have to see whether it reaches it or remains average.

Yeah, looks are the main thing we have to go by at the moment, but we got a glimpse at their personalities. The problem is that it was almost entirely while they were in combat. How they act around each other when not on missions will be more useful for determining these things. While Kurau is fun, she's probably the one I like the least at the moment. Shiho is a tough call because she's the quiet type which makes her limited screen time all the more hard to judge, but I do like her. But it was seeing Aoi telaporting and jumping around like it was nothing and with a bit of elegance to it that somehow grabbed me.

I went in wanting to like it as it's an Aya show, but it's not working for me much at the moment so it's not something that leaps immediately onto my "buy" list - I've nothing against mahou shoujo shows but I don't think this is going to challenge CCS or Nanoha and the animation quality/style is nothing to write home about.

Its a TV Tokyo show, so if you're looking for fanservice expect to be disappointed. They could potentially add some token panchira shots to the DVD version as they did with Negima, but the presence of karaoke on the OP/ED suggest to me that the show is pitched at a younger audience.

The only reason I was expecting fanservice was because of this part of the preview guide here:

Casey Brienza wrote:
You know, I get that oogling boobs and butts can be an important part of the pleasure of these sorts of things. But showing a little girl doing it—as if that makes objectifying behavior somehow morally excusable?

Which was pretty misleading. Partially my fault because I shouldn't have watched something based on just one review (and a reviewer who I know so little about).

I probably should have payed attention to this too.

I'm all about any series that parodies the magical girl genre. You see my cousin and I were very competitive.I detested Shoujo anime, she couldn't stand Shonen anime. But we got our anime from the same source, her mom's friend and our Sensei in a way(she is Japanese).I had to learn all about different series that my cousin was watching while I was waiting for series like Ninku or Jigoku Sensei Nube.(old).

(new)When I saw Zettai Karen Children,it hit right away.I can see some RayEarth, some Powerpuff Z,and some Precure in there, mixed with an array of wacky end bosses(from intro).I'll be sticking this one out just to see what crazy enemy will pop up next.Kaoru is my instant favorite because of the odd pervertedness and fiery element of her character. It's a prepackaged parody, poking around a lot of series as well as itself. What's not to like?

Parodies of the magical girl genre can be pretty fun. The most recent one I remember is Saint October, which was okay, and I wanted to see more but unfortunately I only found two episodes fansubbed.

Zettai Karen Children does look to have the same idea going on, being a magical girl show while at the same time making fun of it. Minamoto turning into a fatherly-type figure for the girls looks like it might make for an interesting story as well. And I agree, Kaoru is indeed amusing. And it's probably in the same way we like Konata from Lucky Star. I'm not saying the writer(s) are pandering to their audience, even though it might be the case, but rather just that it's opposite of what you might expect.

In a way, it also reminded me of Mao-chan and Lime-iro Senkitan. Or some strange amalgamation thereof. The "bosses" in Mao-chan were pretty hilarious, but the girls were even younger in that show. It was a parody magical girl to a certain extent as well. In Lime-iro Senkitan, a teacher is brought in to not only teach the five girls for their school, but also help them learn to work together and master their abilities. Definitely some similarities there. Well, except the girls in Lime-iro are older, so there's a ton of panty shots... I don't think that would really be appropriate here.

Likewise on Aoi. She plays up on her distinctly smart and stylish personality very well. If the other two can play up to their given archetypes as well as she has so far, then so much the better.

The glasses aren't hurting things any, either.

I'm three episodes into this show, and it has so far focused on setting the characters up in an environment where their personalities can expand and become well-defined. From what little I've seen so far, I'm optimistic that they're going to do well in that department.

I tend to give an anime four episodes to prove itself to me, but I can say that this show has already clicked with me. It's too soon for me to say whether or not it's going to reach the same vaunted heights of Cardcaptor Sakura or Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, but I'm pretty sure that, at the least, it's going to provide us with a good season's worth of fun.

I find it a bit refreshing to see the fanservice levels lower than usual.

i have watched the first 5 episodes and so far its going at a very good pace, yes there are slow moments and its not the strongest show out there but please remember this is coming from the same creators as hayate the combat butler. and as for that very innacurate review one of the reviewers on this site which said this show was more provocative then kanokon needs to clear her head and rewatch this with a more open mind and actually pay attention this time. there is no way it is even near the same level of fan service as kanokon. except for a few small comments and a few seconds of one charicters oogling there is very little fanservice/ecchi action in this series.

Well, to be fair, she never said she found it more provocative than Kanokon, just more offensive (although this in itself was probably largely due to her misunderstanding of the likely Hard Gay parody, misinterpreting it as a low blow to gays as a whole). And she just said it had "oogling boobs and butts" with "a little girl doing it". She never specified the amount, or that it was even on the same level as Kanokon. Regardless though, the review was misleading. I also would have wished it to focus more on the actual content of the show rather than her personal views on how morally offensive she thought it was.

I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to admit there are anime I love with heavy fanservice (Popotan, Mahoromatic, Puni Puni Poemy), often times really enjoying the fanservice as well. But when it gets to the point where the show really has nothing going for it other than fanservice (Kanokon), my interest level drops to zero.

Also, I've seen three episodes of this series and dropped it. The comedy just didn't work for me I guess. It was mildly amusing at best. I also heard from someone (don't take this as a fact or quote me on it) that this series was going to run for 50 something episodes, I'm not about to sit through 50 episodes of this. Hayate ran out of good humor about half way through for me. If this one hasn't even hit half way I don't want to know how horrible it's going to get...

Hayate had a string of mostly mediocre episodes after the Butler Tournament, but once it hit episode 38 or 39, it got really good again.

On AoD someone thought they saw that this was going for 50 episodes but so far no one seems to have any source for it. I think 13 is too little, but 26 seems like a good amount for this series. It's not great, but its entertaining enough for the moment.
