I'm curious in checking out Ai Yori Aoshi DVD#1 after reading the new Ai Yori Aoshi manga review here. I have heard a lot of good things about the beginning part of the show, and thinking it may be a good romance my GF would like to watch. But as I flipped through the manga vol.1 at a book store yesterday, there are quite a bit of fanservice and nude shower scenes, showing boobs and all.
 They don't feel perverted or anything, but just not something my GF would like to see much. Did they tone those down on the DVDs? Or did they pretty much show just as much? Is there any story differences as well?

While there isn't much difference in the storyline, I can tell you that yes, the nudity is pretty much gone from the anime series but the fanservice otherwise is pretty much there. Just a word of warning to you though. The story pretty much winds up going nowhere. While there is some plot resolution with the first and last DVD's, the stuff inbetween (while there are definetly some nice moments here and there) is mostly filler. My recommendation is to rent, rather than buy the series.

I agree that the nudity has been omitted for the most part. I would also recommend that if you were to rent the DVDs, only watch it in Japanese. The dub may irritate you.

like everything, any language might irritate you. Try watching it in English first rather than Japanese, so you're not stuck in a "this isn't the proper voice" mind-frame

Well, I agree its your choice to watch in what language you deem fit, I will say that Aoi-chan's VA does a very good job in the original. That being said, the anime does tone down a lot of the nudity in the series. The show is mostly character driven and goes into the relationship between Aoi and what's his face :p
There's also that abysmall Enishi or whatever that comes after AYA. |
