Obviously, this seris created many fans in recent years. Just from my experience from some of them, but the views of those individuals seem to be a bit skewed. One big example is that Cowboy Bebop had an ungodly budget for animation. Like one of the biggest for a television anime ever. Some of these people to me seem to think any animation that does not have similar production values or is as technically advanced is "crap." Another observation is that they only like the more realistic style of charcter designs. More exaggerated styles are labeled as stupid. Not trying to sterotype Cowboy Bebop fans here, or those who started with that show, but I've just noticed this as a trend. I really have nothing against the show itself.

Cowboy Bebop was my breakthrough anime. At first I didn't really like the Chibi or Super Deformed styles, but it didn't take long for me to change my opinion.
I believe it was Kare Kano that changed my mind. I just love that show and now I don't even mind some of the cute series out there. I'm pretty much open to anything. |

A Cowboy Bebop fan once told me that the animation in Akira sucked. So yeah, I guess I do agree with you. But I also came in through Bebop, so I can't say too much.

I agree with you, but CB was my first favorite anime. I had been into it a little bit before it but it was the one that brought me into the world of anime. I used to hate non realisitc styles but over the years I have come to like just about every anime style out there.

I must respectfully disagree with you. Cowboy Bebop was my first anime, and it's always the first anime I show to people who have never been interested in anime. However, I don't watch or show anime for the animation - I watch it for the story, and I make it a point to convince people that story is the reason anime is better than American cartoons. Are there people who are turned off by chibi-style animation and the like? Yes. But by and large, those are the people who don't care about the story in the first place (at least from my personal experience). If they're watching anime solely for how it looks, they missed the point. I don't think that's any anime's fault - it's just their mindset. I don't think it's fair to stereotype in this case.

I guess I'm the undergod here; I've been watching anime for six years, and only watched Cowboy Bebop for the first time a few months ago. I wasn't too impressed, and believe the show is the second most overrated anime of all time (It's good, but no where near the masterpiece most claim it to be). Although I've been watching anime for six years, I really didn't get into it until watching Berserk....which is the anime that officially converted me. So... I guess it depends on watch you've watched beforehand. If Bebop is one of the first anime you've seen, OF COURSE you're going to be biased about other anime standards. Had Bebop been one of the first I've seen, I would probably be the same way. Fortunately, though I've watched about 100 other anime before touching it, and know that there is much, much better out there. I loved the animation style of Bebop, particularly the character designs. Although I wouldn't call it "realistic." Faye's breasts are not real by any means.

Actually, since it is so well liked by so many people (look at the ANN user ratings), Cowboy Bebop is not overrated. Your opinion just happens to be shared by a minority of those who have seen Cowboy Bebop. For it to truly be overrated, it would have to be quite well disliked by a sizable portion of those who have seen it. |

Anyone who says cowboy bebop is overated is wrong. It is a great anime because it is. Yes You have some points that CB fans are biased towards other kinds of anime. But the same problem happens in other things like music. New fans to certain bands tend to biased to other bands. Some people will get over it and some wont. Its just a part of life

"Overrated" is a completely subjective term and, by definition, means you disagree with a heckuvalot of people. I don't think there's any need for an arbitrary number of people to think something's overrated before an individual can call it overrated, since nothing is objectively overrated.
For example, I think Spirited Away, while still pretty good, is very overrated and I don't actually care whether anyone else here agrees with me or not, it doesn't change my opinion. If it wasn't so well liked by so many people, I probably couldn't call it "overrated". Same goes for Tasha and Cowboy Bebop... the number of people who don't think it's overrated are irrelevant to her (?) opinion, and, the more people who really like a show, the more likely it is that someone will think it's overrated. |

Replace "Cowboy Bebop" with "Dragonball Z" and you can feel my pain. |

I agree and I disagree at the same time. I agree because I have met some CB fans that I could not get to touch series like Lupin the 3rd with a ten foot pole, and then I met some others that just craved anything anime so they would give anything at least one watch.
I personally like Bebop, but I think it suffers from too many standalone episodes. The character designs are awesome, and the music is equally awesome, but then again what series doesn't have its flaws right? ~LoneWolf |

I don't feel that Bebop is overated, However it's not the that automatically comes to mind when someone mentions Anime (I.E. Word association). It's a good series, but it's not really the "breakthrough Anime" that many have claimed it to be.
I would easily recommend it over the other "hyped" series that is Dragonball Z. |

Well, Cowboy Bebop was my first 'adult' anime. I'd been watching Pokemon, Digimon, and DBZ. Back in those days, my family *gasp* didn't have a computer, so I was unaware of the whole anime world out there. Then Bebop showed me that there's stuff for older audiences. I loved it at the time for this reason. Now, I still like it, but I've learned that I prefer series with continuing storylines, unlike the majority of Bebop being one shot episodes.
As for the animation, I like the big eyes & bright colors, but they're not necessary. However, they do give a good first impression. For example, I happen to love Lupin III, but when I first saw it, I admit wasn't impressed and I didn't like the episode I saw. (The one with Nessie/the lock ness monster - to be honest, it's still one I just don't like) However, watching the next few episodes pulled me straight in. |

Well I do like Bebop. I thought it was an awesome anime. I do find that some people that saw Bebop first are biased when it comes to Bebop. And don't take other animation as seriously cause they saw Bebop first. Frankly I love the show. But I don't think it's as awesome as every says it is. I think it's quite over hyped like Evangelion and Dragon Ball Z. Still good shows but not the god send to anime that everyone says they are.
