I guess the lackluster response is indicative of its sales in N. America...

I think the Lackluster response is due to the fact it was licensed by Raijin comics. If it was picked up by Viz or Tokyo Pop, they would have marketed this manga much better than Raijin. Too bad, I really wanted to see more volumes of Slam Dunk.

I agree with Tokyopop, but not Viz, after noticing how they understock and underpromote Vagabond. And Raijin did the best job they could, but everyone preferred Girl Got Game instead.

Do they really understock/promote? I really didn't notice. I for one love Vagabond and am pleased with the exellent quality of Viz's TPBs (extra big, quality paper, yet still 4 cents cheaper than TPs crap), but if what your saying is true, then I wish they really would promote this exellent manga more.
I wish someone bigger had picked up Slamdunk though. Then we wouldn't have to wait till Rajin "rethinks" their marketing plan (if that ever does happen).

They do in my area. There's like one copy of Vagabond, and 20 copies of Yu Gi Oh per store, if they even decide to sell Vagabond.

Thats at book stores (even the stores in my area usually have them). I suspect much of the sales come from comicbook stores.

L.A. They don't sell anything here anymore, because taxes are too high, I guess.

Really? In that big of a city? I'm from Boston, and since its fairly small geographic wise and has a decent public transportation system, I can basically go to any of the bookstores/comicbook stores in the city, so I can usually find anything, even really old stuff.

Kagemusha: Well L.A. is neither fairly small nor does it have a decent public transportation system.
