Android App Controls TV with 6 Voice Actresses' Voices

posted on by Egan Loo

The Japanese electronics company Toshiba launched a limited-time free Android smartphone app that acts as a remote control — with the voices of six voice actresses. The RZ Seiyū Remo app includes over 300 different spoken lines from Maaya Uchida, Satomi Satou, Ayana Taketatsu, Aki Toyosaki, Yōko Hikasa, and Madoka Yonezawa. With the app, users can control their Toshiba LCD televisions and Blu-ray Disc recorders as if their smartphones were touch-screen remotes.

The user can hear lines uttered by the actresses every time an onscreen "button" is pressed in the app. Since the actresses recorded several lines for every button, users can hear a different random line even after pressing the same button twice. (The app's web page features several voice samples.) In addition, there are seven "hidden buttons" linked to special secret lines.

The free app is available from June 10 to September 10 for smartphones running Android OS 2.1 or higher.
