Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

Gintama protagonist Gintoki has a long history of cross-dressing. He first appeared as his alter-ego "Paako" in the series' 24th episode, which aired over 10 years ago. Paako has made reoccurring appearances whenever the situation called for it, and subsequently won over fans.

The creators occasionally throw Paako fans a bone, or in this case melons, with new merchandise. A little more than four years since the character's last 3D mouse pad, Paako is finally getting a "part two" at this year's Jump Festa 2018 event at Makuhari Messe this weekend. Lucky customers at Jump Festa will get to take home Paako immediately, while the the rest of us are deigned to waiting until next year.

Manga creator Hideaki Sorachi designed the mouse pad for Broccoli and it's currently available for pre-order for 4,500 yen (US$40) before it ships in April.

Other than his stint as Paako, Gintoki has also appeared as a true gender-swapped version in the series 275th episode along with the rest of the cast. That episode inspired multiple figures.
