Sunrise Confirms Details on Sora o Kakeru Shōjo Anime

On Friday, the Sunrise anime studio has announced more details on Sora o Kakeru Shōjo [Sora Kake Girl or "The Girl Who Leapt Through Space (the Heavens)", the bishōjo science-fiction action project that it first revealed with a teaser website on September 25. The story is set in the year 311 of the Orbital Calendar, when humanity has migrated to countless colony clusters in space. A space colony girl named Akiha Shishidō encounters a malevolent artificial intelligence named Leopard that has been installed on a colony. Akiha is joined by an Inter-Colony Police officer named Itsuki Kannagi, a taciturn young girl named Honoka Kawai, and a robot named Imoko "Imo-chan" Shishidō. The project's title is an apparent wordplay on Toki o Kakeru Shōjo or The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Yasutaka Tsutsui's classic novel that was adapted into several live-action television series, live-action films, manga, and an acclaimed anime film.
My-HiME and My-Otome director Masakazu Obara is collaborating with Rozen Maiden and Yozakura Quartet series script supervisor Jukki Hanada on the project. Another My-Otome veteran, animator Yousuke Kabashima (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, iDOLM@STER: XENOGLOSSIA), is adapting the original character designs by illustrator Kazuyuki Yoshizumi. Mecha designs are being handled by three prominent staffers: Studio Nue's Kazutaka Miyatake (Macross, Space Battleship Yamato, Captain Harlock), Bee-Craft's Junichi Akutsu (Code Geass, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, My-Otome), and ZiN STUDIO's Noriyuki Jinguji (Hellsing, s-CRY-ed, Trigun). Chiyuki Aoki is contributing in production set design.
