Media Blasters Acquires Blade of the Immortal Anime

Bee Train's TV version of Hiroaki Samura's samurai manga to launch in September

The Internet retailer Amazon lists a September 29 DVD release for the first volume of the Blade of the Immortal samurai anime, and Media Blasters CEO John Sirabella has confirmed that his company's AnimeWorks label acquired the anime. As in the original manga by Hiroaki Samura, the 2008 television anime series centers on Manji (Escaflowne and Gungrave's Tomokazu Seki), a rōnin swordsman condemned to immortality unless he kills a thousand evil men for all the good men he killed.

Kōichi Mashimo directed the animators on Bee Train on this project, as he did for the .hack// franchise, Noir, and the ongoing series Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ . Hiroyuki Kawasaki (The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Sorcerer Hunters) oversaw the scripts, and Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Murder Princess, Samurai Champloo animation director) designed the characters.

Media Blasters plans to dub Blade of the Immortal in English after deciding on which studio to use. Dark Horse Comics is publishing Samura's original manga, and it also lists a Blade of the Immortal: Legend Of The Sword Demon novel for a November 15 release on Amazon.
