Mardock Scramble Anime Film Website Launched
posted on by Egan Loo
A website has launched for what it describes as the theatrical animated adaptation of Tow Ubukata's Mardock Scramble science fiction novel series. The website's copyright lists the Japanese production company King Records. The Gonzo anime studio had planned an original video anime (OVA) project of Mardock Scramble in 2005, but had cancelled the project in December of 2006 for "various reasons."
Ubukata has written six volumes of the science-fiction novel series — three in the original Mardock Scramble arc, and three in the Mardock Velocity prequel — since 2003. Ubukata also created the stories behind Le Chevalier D'Eon, Fafner, Heroic Age, and Pilgrim Jäger.
Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire, Yona Yona Penguin) drew the illustrations in the original novel volumes, while Range Murata (Blue Submarine No. 6, Last Exile) was working on Gonzo's project before it was cancelled. ANN posted an interview with Murata in 2006 regarding his work on Gonzo's version. As Murata describes it, "the main character is a girl, and her body is burned by the bad guy, and she dies, but then she's resurrected. So she's out for revenge."
