Japan's Animation TV Ranking, July 19-25

GeGeGe no Nyōbō (Spooky Wife), the live-action television drama adaptation of an autobiographical essay book by GeGeGe no Kītarō author Shigeru Mizuki's wife Nunoe Mura, ran on July 24 at 8:00 a.m. and earned a 21.7 rating.
Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro film re-aired for the 12th time on July 23 at 9:00 p.m. with a 20.2 rating. It is the 10th time since the 1988 film was first televised in April of 1989 that the film earned a rating higher than 20%. The film is considered a staple of summer vacations in Japan since it has been airing during that time on a roughly biannual basis. Interest in Totoro was recently renewed because a garden opened at the former grounds of the so-called "Totoro's Home" on July 25. After the vacant house mysteriously burnt down in 2009, Miyazaki offered to personally design a garden park in its place, complete with a building modeled after the fictional family home in the film.
The second live-action television series based on Satoru Hiura's Hotaru no Hikari women's romance manga aired on July 21 at 10:00 p.m. with a 15.1 rating.
