Death Note, Battle Angel's Live-Action Films Still In Queue

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Writer and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black signed on to direct the live-action Doc Savage comic book adaptation with Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to Hollywood news website The Wrap earlier this month.

Black stated in an interview with Bleeding Cool that he was penning the film with Chuck Mondry and Anthony Baggarozzi. He confirmed in the same interview that he was still involved in Warner Brothers' planned live-action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga Death Note.

In a separate development, Avatar actress Zoe Saldana confirmed on The Jonathan Ross Show in Great Britain that James Cameron's two Avatar sequels will begin shooting early next year and will likely be shot back-to-back. Avatar 2 is scheduled to open in theaters no earlier than 2015.

Cameron had once said he would work on a live-action adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita manga after he directed those two sequels, but he stated last year that the film would not happen "for a few years." Cameron plans to direct The Informationist film based on a book by Taylor Stevens after he finishes directing the two sequels to his Avatar film.
