Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Manga Gets Keikain Spinoff Series

posted on by Egan Loo
Hiroshi Shiibashi's new manga centers around onmyōji Ryūji Keikain

This year's 33rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that Hiroshi Shiibashi is launching a Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan spinoff manga series in the Jump Live app called Nurarihyon no Mago Gaiden ~Keikain Yobanashi~ Gankyū Shūshu-ki (Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Spinoff: Keikain Bedtime Story — The Eyeball-Collecting Demon). The story will revolve around the onmyōji Ryūji Keikain and a mysterious request he receives.

The original manga's story follows Rikuo Nura, a child who is part human and a quarter yōkai (demon), who lives in a house full of spirits along with his grandfather. Trying to escape his fate of acting like a demon, he does good deeds in order to avoid becoming one — despite his grandfather's wish for Rikuo to succeed him as the master of the Nurari yōkai clan.

Shiibashi launched the series in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2008, and the manga's final three-chapter arc ran in Shueisha's Jump Next! magazine last year. Viz Media is releasing the original manga series and the 2010 anime adaptation and its second season, which the company simulcast and then dubbed for streaming on Neon Alley.
