Puzzle & Dragon Mobile Game Announces Dragon Ball Z Kai Collaboration

More details to come during PuzDra festival later this month

The staff of the Puzzle & Dragons mobile game confirmed on Monday that the game will be collaborating with Dragon Ball Kai, the television anime that compiles the original anime adaptation of Akira Toriyama's fighting manga. Puzzle & Dragon game producer Daisuke Yamamoto revealed that more information about the collaboration will be announced at the PuzDra fan appreciation festival on May 25. Yamamoto also hinted that there might be a new dungeon unveiled for the game at the festival, similar to last year's event.

The original Puzzle & Dragons is a social puzzle game for iOS and Android devices. Gung Ho Online Entertainment released the "puzzle RPG" in Japan in February 2012, and in the U.S. in November 2012. The game has more than 12 million downloads in Japan, and won the top award at the Mobile Project Award 2012, and the top award in game design at the CEDEC Awards 2012. Gung Ho released the Nintendo 3DS port of the game in Japan last December.

Dragon Ball Z Kai (known as just Dragon Ball Kai in Japan) condenses the 1989-1996 Dragon Ball Z anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. The series features digital high-definition remastering, a re-recorded soundtrack, and select scenes updated with new effects or re-animated footage. The 2009-2011 run of Dragon Ball Z Kai covered from the Saiyan Saga to the Android Cell Saga. The anime is currently airing on Japanese television.

Funimation confirmed last month that it has not begun recording a dub for the Majin Buu Saga, and does not yet have plans to do so. Dragon Ball Z Kai voice actors Kyle Herbert and Sean Schemmel reported in April of 2013 that they were recording for the arc.
