1st Doraemon Stage Play in 9 Years Unveils Visual

posted on by Egan Loo

Doraemon: Nobita to Animal Planet (Doraemon: Nobita and the Animal Planet), the stage play of Fujiko F. Fujio's classic children's manga, debuted a flyer visual on Saturday for its first run in nine years.

Yūki Ogoe (Prince of Tennis musical's Ryōma Sakamoto, Yowamushi Pedal's Sakamichi Onoda, bottom left in visual) stars as the robot cat Doraemon's owner Nobita. Nogizaka46 idol group member Hina Higuchi (bottom right) plays the heroine Shizuka-chan, and Kōki (top left) plays the neighborhood bully Gian. Shō Jinnai (top right) play the spoiled Suneo. Minami Tsukui plays Chippo, and Taichi Shimamura plays Chippo's papa. Ikuko Sawada plays Nobita's mama.

The play adapts the 1989-1990 manga arc that inspired a 1990 anime movie of the same name. The play debuted in 2008 but has not had a return engagement until this year.

Shōji Kokami, a self-professed fan of Doraemon and other Fujio works, is directing the production. It will run from March 26 to April 2 at Tokyo's Sunshine Gekijō theater, followed by dates in Fukuoka, Aichi, Miyagi, and Osaka in April.
