Vietnamese cinema chain Lotte Cinema announced on July 5 that it will screen the live-action film of Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki manga in Vietnam beginning on July 20.

The film opened in Japan on April 20, and it sold 91,000 tickets and earned 124 million yen (about US$1.14 million) to rank #5 in its opening weekend. As of May 6, the film has earned a total of 605,686,900 yen (about US$5.56 million). The film is expected to surpass 1 billion yen (about US$9.21 million) at the box office.

The film's cast includes:

  • Noritake Kinashi as Ichiro Inuyashiki, the protagonist, and a typical, middle-aged salaryman
  • Takeru Satoh as Hiro Shishigami, a sociopathic murderer
  • Mari Hamada as Marie Inuyashiki, Ichiro's wife
  • Yuki Saitō as Yūko Shishigami, Hiro's mother
  • Nayuta Fukuzaki as Takeshi Inuyashiki, Ichiro's son
  • Ayaka Miyoshi as Mari Inuyashiki, Ichiro's daughter
  • Kanata Hongou as Naoyuki Andō, Hiro's childhood friend who works with Ichiro to stop Hiro
  • Fumi Nikaidō as Shion Watanabe, a girl who bears good will toward Hiro and gets close to him
  • Yusuke Iseya as Detective Hagiwara, a film-original character who is investigating Hiro's murders

Shinsuke Satō, who also directed the live-action film adaptation of Oku's Gantz manga, as well as its Gantz II: Perfect Answer sequel film, directed the film.

Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in print in North America, and it released the 10th compiled volume last December. Crunchyroll also released the series digitally, and it describes the story.

Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and he's constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that he's done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldn't get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there's something…different about himself.

Oku launched the manga in Kodansha's Evening magazine in January 2014, and the manga's 10th and final volume shipped in Japan last September.

The anime adaptation premiered on Fuji TV's Noitamina block last October. The series streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime.
