New York City convention takes place on August 17-19

New York City anime convention Liberty City Anime Con announced on July 19 that it is hosting Shingo Yamashita, Jun Sugawara, and Shintarou Douge.

Yamashita directed and provided the storyboard for the second opening of the Twin Star Exorcists anime in 2016. He also served as unit director and animation director for certain opening and ending animation in Naruto Shippūden and Birdy the Mighty Decode:02, and recently provided key animation for the opening sequences of SukaSuka and Atom The Beginning last year. He announced last year that he is directing an original anime project.

Sugawara is the director of the non-profit organization Animator Supporters, which has been launching crowdfunding campaigns for its low-income Animator Dormitory project since 2014. Animator Supporters opened the first dorms in Asagaya in Tokyo's Suginama ward in 2015 after a successful crowdfunding campaign. Currently, the program has a four-person dorm in Asagaya, a two-person dorm in Ogikubo, and a two-person women's dorm in Suginami. The campaign recently launched a project to produce its own short anime.

Douge has worked on such anime as Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Brave Story, Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, Baccano!, Corpse Princess, Birdy the Mighty Decode:02, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, The Tatami Galaxy, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Blue Exorcist, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer, Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings, AKB0048, Space Dandy, Garo the Animation, March comes in like a lion, Black Clover, Jūni Taisen, and FLCL Progressive.

The convention will take place at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on August 17-19. Previously announced Japanese guests include musicians Reni Mimura, TiA, kohei, 2UNE, Lia (and the Vocaloid unit IA) and StarDrop.
