Evangelion Battlefields game debuts in 2020 with "lead controller" peripheral, figures

Japanese mobile game developer Mobcast revealed more details for the smartphone game it is developing for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise on Thursday, including the game's title of Evangelion Battlefields. The official YouTube channel for Kadokawa's Famitsu app website is also streaming gameplay footage of the game.

The game will be set in Tokyo-3, and will feature various Evangelion units in combat against each other. The game will include material from the Rebuild of Evangelion films.

The game will also have a special "lead controller" that will allow players to control the game, and the game will also be linked to figures of various characters from the franchise. Players will be able to attach figures to the lead controller and use the characters in the game. More figures featuring additional characters will be released as the game is updated.

The game will debut in 2020.

The franchise has inspired numerous spinoffs, merchandise, and collaborations. Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime, founded Studio Khara in 2006. He and the studio began producing a new tetralogy of films titled Rebuild of Evangelion, which reinterprets the events in the series. The tetralogy began with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone in 2007, followed by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :|| (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0), the final film, is currently in production and will open in June 2020. Toei revealed the first 10 minutes of the upcoming film on July 6.
