Setsucon 2021 - Celebrating Anime in Altoona This April

ALTOONA, PA - Setsucon, Pennsylvania's winter anime convention, which has been run annually since 2007 and in Altoona since 2018, will return to the Blair County Convention Center this coming April 9-11, 2021, celebrating 15 years of bringing anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, and Japanese culture to Central Pennsylvania and beyond.

This weekend-long convention - similar to a comic-con - celebrates all things anime and Japanese culture, though panels, industry guests, exhibitors, artists, musical performances, and so much more. One of the highlights every year is the many cosplays - or costumes - from popular anime like My Hero Academia, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Sailor Moon, Yuri!!! on Ice, and Attack on Titan or as comic book characters like Harley Quinn, Iron Man, and Thor.

Usually held at the end of January, Setsucon will be shifting to April for its upcoming 2021 convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic in hopes that by then large events will be able to happen safely, although the event will continue to monitor the situation in the months to come. The event will follow all local, state, federal, and CDC guidelines and recommendations that are applicable at the time of the convention. More information will be available on the convention website in the months leading up to the event.

Additionally, for the first time ever, Setsucon will be expanding past two days, with more programming added on Friday evening, as part of enhanced Friday programming schedule.

Setsucon brings nearly 1,500 fans from over 25 states (& Canada) for a weekend full of activities, including our Cosplay Masquerade - which is a showcase of costumes and skits from attendees, Video Gaming Tournaments, Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, fandom and education panels, shopping from vendors and artists, and anime voice actors. Setsucon 2020 brought in the voice actors Billy Kametz (Promare) and Faye Mata (KONOSUBA), geeky-belly dancing troupe Antipode, cultural anthropologist Charles Dunbar, nerdy disc-jockey DJ Awesomus Prime, and international recording artists Kohei Hattori and TiA.

Pre-Registration for Setsucon 2021 will be available at www.setsucon.com in the coming weeks. Weekend badges start at $25, Saturday-only badges start at $18, and Sunday-only badges start at $12. For more information, visit www.setsucon.com or reach out by using the contact form on the website.

ABOUT SETSUCON: Setsucon is organized by the Penn State Anime Organization at University Park. Starting out in 2007 at the Days Inn Penn State in State College, this student and alumni run event moved to Altoona in 2018 to continue growing and presenting a safe and inclusive family friendly convention to Pennsylvania and beyond. With nearly 1,500 attendees, it is one of the largest fandom events in Central Pennsylvania and the fourth largest annual anime convention in the state.
