Dear Sister, I've Become a Blessed Maiden
What's It About?

What seems like an ordinary spring break evening for Umehiko and his little sister, Momo, quickly turns to confusion when a mysterious symbol appears in the sky. Next thing the siblings know, they're in a strange world that's definitely not their own. But Umehiko is only concerned with making sure his sister gets back home safely. Unfortunately, right as he sends her back into the magical seal, he's pulled back and stranded in a whole new world! Theodorus, a powerful sorcerer who's been working tirelessly to summon a blessed maiden, declares that Umehiko will become his spring for unlimited power and puts a strange symbol on the confused man's body. Suddenly, Umehiko is overcome with an uncontrollable lust--that only Theodorus can satisfy. Can he endure being the sorcerer's new "blessed maiden," or will he manage to find a way to escape?

One of my favorite biproducts of the “isekai for grownups” subgenre (for adult readers and featuring adult characters, like The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter and Housekeeping Mage From Another World) is that it has a tendency to take a harder look at the entire concept of being isekai'd. In this story, for example, when siblings Umehiko and Momo are snatched away to another world to serve as basically mana batteries for a mage, Umehiko is furious. How dare this random adult man summon his fourteen-year-old sister to use without her consent? And honestly, it's hard to disagree with him – even without the fact that this is an 18+-rated manga for an adult audience, an adult summoning a child to use for sexual purposes is just gross and wrong, and Theodorus' explanation (and later demonstration) that the whole mana-recharging thing feels good for the “blessed maiden” in no way makes it better.
Before you jettison this book (or review) across the room, let me be clear: Momo is safe. Umehiko manages to get her back through the summoning portal, although he's stranded in the other world himself. That does away with one potential problem. But the other issue looms large over the rest of the volume: Umehiko becomes Theodorus' blessed maiden and is basically forced into a sexual relationship he didn't want. This is a romance, so he does, of course, come to find Theo less repugnant once he gets to know him, but it's still a barrier to entry. If dubcon verging on noncon isn't your thing, this is not going to be the series for you. Feel free to jettison the book (or review) at this point.
Interestingly enough, the sexual component of the story feels almost rote, like it has to be there because it's part of the deal. Umehiko's pleasure is only physical at this point, and Theodorus is just learning that blessed maidens are people who have rights and thoughts and feelings. He needs to have sex with Umehiko because that's how it works, but it's almost divorced from the things he actually likes about the other man, like his kindness and compassion. (And cooking skills. The man's a professional chef, after all.) Umehiko begins to have tentative feelings for Theo as well, but his are still stymied by the fact that the mage basically kidnapped him. It's both a slow burn and a speed sex story at once.
I also want to shout out the translation, which is excellent – it feels like reading a Rachel Reid novel, so good work, Katrina Leonoudakis!

Hey fellas, is it gay to have sex with a man…but only because you and your sister got isekai'd into another world by a hot sorcerer who wants to keep her as a sex slave, but you get a womb tattoo that makes it so you can only orgasm from his touch instead???
Yuiko's Dear Sister, I've Become a Blessed Maiden is a really convoluted intox hentai, and I am here for it! For a while now, misogynist dudes have co-opted the isekai into a vehicle for their toxic male power fantasies. It almost feels reclamatory for Dear Sister to use the aesthetics and storytelling conventions of isekai to weave a tale that's super heckin gay! Moreover, it's a delight to read, and I'm surprised by how much character development and intrigue are packed into what could have been a work that coasted to success on the novelty of its premise.
Umehiko is an archetypal good boy! His two loves are cooking and his younger sister, which is why he immediately shoves her back through the summoning portal the second they're both transported to another world by the scary-hot demon mage Theodorus. Furious at this development after putting so much effort towards summoning a maiden, Theodorus instead places a binding mark on Umehiko. This has several practical and horny effects, including turning Umehiko's arousal into mana for Theodorus to utilize in his magic, but also makes it so that Umehiko becomes hornier the more Theodorus uses magic, and that only Theodorus can bring the young man to climax.
There are a lot of hentai with some version of this “two characters erotically bound together” premise, and I cannot undersell how fresh Yuiko makes this idea feel by having the story focus on two men in an isekai setting. While standoffish and even resentful of each other at first, Umehiko and Theodorus begin to develop more of an understanding and comfort level in their dynamic while exploring more of this fantasy world. This volume largely focuses on Umehiko making peace with his newfound situation, while also teasing Theodorus' goal of becoming human in a genuinely intriguing way.
The real draw of this work is the power dynamics on display, though. Theodorus is an archetypal aloof and experienced dom, while Umehiko puts up adorable, mewling resistance to every sexual act before inevitably caving to his overwhelming desire. Yuiko understands deeply what makes this kind of play so hot for so many, and Katrina Leonoudakis translation further polishes this appeal by having Umehiko speak in a way that's brash and often crass, which makes it all the more erotic when he submits to Theodorus' refined confidence.
There's a lot to love in Dear Sister, I've Become a Blessed Maiden and I pray that it finds the success in this genre that's usually only afforded to power fantasies for the worst dudes imaginable Even if I wish the sexual situations were just a little more varied in such a high-concept fantasy world, Dear Sister is a delight and anyone who likes seeing hot dudes make out (and more) should absolutely read this manga.

The funny thing about this story is that I feel like it would almost work better if it didn't have sex. Let me be clear, I don't mean that the romantic buildup between the two leads shouldn't be the focus, but rather I was more drawn into the world-building and initial premise than I was to the admittedly rather intense sex scenes. This is a story about a young man who gets someone to a fantasy world in order to act out the role of a holy maiden. The problem is that he is a rather buff and conventionally attractive young man, so being labeled as a maiden doesn't really make a lot of sense. The story is sort of an inversion of those types of isekai stories, which does lead to some pretty fun comedy. But this is basically a straightforward fantasy with some really intense boys' love sex scenes thrown in there with an overly stubborn Dom.
The sex scenes are definitely titillating, even though the very nature of the holy maiden being forcibly turned on does feel like consent is sort of being skewed from time to time. But outside of that, I actually did like a lot of the narrative progression of the story. It felt like there were actual stakes involved, and I was curious to learn more about this world that the titular maiden was now inhabiting. This is why I almost wish the story were a more conventional isekai because I actually want to see those elements developed more, rather than just jumping into the next sex scene. Maybe that's just me, but I think it is a testament to the fact that the story does feel like a rather cohesive package despite having so much going on. If you're a fan of fantasy boys love with a soft boy and a mean yet kind-hearted sadist, then I would say give this one a shot.
