“Is this worth reading?” is such an odd question when it comes to reading explicit porn. How does one even answer that? Yes? No? Both? Sexy Times With My Cosplaying Girlfriend Compilation is exactly what it says it is. What are the motivating factors, then, that would make this “worth reading”? It's also interesting that the synopsis fails to mention the single feature that actually makes this something a person might want to read. Yes, the girlfriend is muscular, but also, unmentioned, she has gigantic honking tits. Like Chesty Morgan, it is impossible to notice just about anything else.

As a result, I think it is terribly unfair of the synopsis to focus on her muscles, which are not the main point here, and her cosplaying, which is all but irrelevant to the story. The reason one reads this is for her humongous hooters.

The art here is both explicit and sometimes a little amusing, as 18+ manga often are. Isolated views of male and female genitalia and sexual characteristics, floating above other panels, can feel a bit psychedelic at times.

The strongest aspect of the story is how much both parties seem to care for one another. The boyfriend is slightly jealous of the other men who pay his girlfriend attention when she cosplays, but he shows his affection through healthy, loving intercourse. There's no demeaning of the girlfriend in any way, not even in the short, but meaningful interactions when photos are being taken of her…with explicit consent. “May I take your photograph?” is seen more than once. How refreshing in an 18+ manga.

Once we have surfaced the specific reason one might want to read this, we can, at last, answer this question: “Is it worth reading?” If your turn-on is hugely endowed women with chiseled abs, a loving, if slightly insecure, boyfriend who has messy, explicit sex, then yes, absolutely, this manga is worth reading. If you are looking for cosplay or muscle body pinups, then I think you'd be disappointed.

I can't remember the last time I read a doujin that was so overtly just a series of the author's specific fetishes as Utsutenkai's Sexy Times With My Cosplaying Girlfriend Compilation. Featuring an unnamed tall, tanned, muscular girl cosplaying as a bikini-clad catgirl wrestler, most of the story in this 60-some page work focuses on her cosplaying at doujinshi events to promote the work of her and her boyfriend's doujin circle before inevitably transitioning to the two having sex. While a part of me wishes that this work gave more time to the anxieties and real world compilations that can arise from having an attractive partner that's using their appearance to their enrichment, this is such a wish-fulfillment story written for what I can only assume is the author's enjoyment specifically that I can't help but meet it where it's at and appreciate it.

I cannot stress enough that there is not a ton of narrative meat (no matter how muscular the heroine is) on the bones of Sexy Times With My Cosplaying Girlfriend Compilation. These stories start with the pair selling doujin before ending up at a love hotel through one trope or another, like a freak rainstorm forcing them to take shelter. As such, the dialogue in this work is a bit clunky, and the translation is similarly awkward, but it still manages to capture the exuberant energy that the work is going for, with the expressions in the artwork compensating for this deficiency.

With how commonplace the sexual fantasy of “having sex with a cosplayer” is in anime adjacent media and audiences, I honestly expected the kinks in this work to be fairly tame and broad, but got a couple of curveballs that both surprised and impressed me! Featuring sexual situations related to male receiving anal, shaving, and exhibitionism, this work was just a bit more adventurous than its ilk, and that goes a long way in my summation.

The only big mark against Sexy Times With My Cosplaying Girlfriend Compilation is that it's branded as a “compilation” and doesn't feature the impressive cover artwork of the individual releases that comprise it in any capacity. While Utsutenkai isn't the best at panel layouts, they have a strong understanding of anatomy and posing that's displayed on these covers, and it's a bummer that they aren't included in any way. Even with these marks against it, and this work not personally appealing to my preferences, this is the most personal doujin I've read in a while, and I would recommend it to all who are curious.

Cosplay sex sounds good on paper, but in my experience, it's not always an easy thing to facilitate. Cosplays can be expensive and already incredibly difficult to move around in, so adding a physically daunting activity like sex into the mix is usually a recipe for disaster. But that's fine. I wasn't reading the story for realism; I was reading this story to see if there would be some fun cosplay sex between a young couple, and I did technically get that. In fact, one of my favorite parts about this short story is just how infatuated with each other this couple is. The idea of a nerdy artist getting together with a busty cosplayer is a lot more common than you might think, but it still carries with it some believable insecurities. The sex has a bit of emotion to it as the cosplay girlfriend in question really wants to make it clear that she will only be this sexually intense with her boyfriend, which was actually really sweet. The fact that these two were getting it on in between days at a convention also felt surprisingly realistic.

Personally, it would've been nice if there were more than one cosplay showcase. This makes sense in the context of the story, but considering that cosplay is such a big selling point of this book, it feels like a wasted opportunity that there was only one really shown. Also, while I loved how the sex scenes themselves were framed, I wasn't always a big fan of the artwork itself. Sometimes the artwork looked unfinished, especially when it came to things like the genitals. You know how sometimes a manga artist will show what the storyboards looked like before the art gets finished? Sometimes random panels or pages would look exactly like that, and unfortunately, that did impact my overall enjoyment. It's hard for me to give this book a higher rating than because things just looked a lot better, then I might easily be able to say this is one of the best porn titles in the guide.
