Hi there.

This is my first post. I have to admit that I'm a bit of a newbie to the manga world... please don't hold that against me. Embarassed

I'm teaching in Korea and, needless to say, the students are manga crazy. I want to use some in class and I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend some titles that would be suitable for use in a classroom (ie not too violent or sexual - Love Hina would be prefect if they didn't keep getting naked!). Preferably in English but with pretty simple grammar. I'm teaching mainly girls so that's something else to keep in mind.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help out.

So what are you teaching then? If it's English, wouldn't it be kind of strange using manga as the material? Plus the tension is rather high between South Korea and Japan today. Using manga in a classroom might not be the best idea right now -- you might attract unnecessary attention from PTA.

There are English version of many manhwa titles around. I'd say Couple is one of many that matches your need. It's a romantic comedy, and from what I've read there's no violence or Love Hina-styled nudity.

You might want to check out Nambul, a korean manhwa.
Deals with politics as well national identity. Hyun Se Lee,is a respected mangaka in korea. Maybe something they can identify with.

But girls might not be into those kind of important things and they just want to read about romance and stuff, than Soul to Seoul is pretty good story, but it doesn't just deal with romance but with national identity (since the main guy is half white/half korean), and the setting takes place in New York.

Couple has been previously mentioned.

Also, try something like Gunsmith Cats or Chrono Crusade, manga set in the US. You might have some interesting discussions about America in the process.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, tension's high, but I'm teaching a group of tourism majors. I have about a dozen japanese students in the class so the bunch I have is pretty good about seperating National tensions with personal and artistic ones. I'm into using manga to balance out the heavy tourism slant of the course with something more fun that they can relate more to.

Thanks tons for the suggestions.
