Coming in less then a couple weeks in the 1st ever New York Comic Convention. One aspect I personally enjoy about this event is the purely "trade show" purpose of the event, like what e3 is for the video game industry.
Now, as for comic companies, in particular manga/manwha/manhua publishers, there's a pretty good line for the first year of companies exhibiting, as well as participating in panels. NY Comic Con Manga Schedule There's some notable companies though "not" included that I hope for next year do participate. Broccoli Books Dark Horse Manga Digital Manga Dr. Master Books Go Comi Infinity Studios Studio Ice Seven Seas Hopefully ADV and Media Blasters will have manga news at their respective panels as they're currently labeled in the anime schedule section. What I'd like to end this post on now is starting a thread for questions to be asked at the various panels at the convention. Here's a couple I'd like each of the companies to answer. 1. Why can't there be a standardized ratings system that all the companies can agree to participate in rather then a jumble of them? 2. What is your companies position on fanscan/scannalations? Do you see them helping/hurting sales? 3. What is your companies plans for digital distribution of content in North America? Are downloadable content too ipods or psp's the future? What about cell phones or the new Sony Tablet that was shown at the last CES? 4. Is the market for graphic novels big enough for more anthologies to enter the market? Perhaps something like Pulp can be started up again. Hopefully many of the people here will be at the event. |
